R.I.P. Grandpa

It feels like yesterday when we were sitting around the fire,
Laughing, joking and eating pies by the camp fire.
That summer was great, you taught me how to swim.
We went to the masses and sang all the hymns.
Then BOOM, the light of your life was snuffed out.
Though I knew your end was near, I still had my doubts.
I guess I was in denial.
I mean you had triumphed against all life's trials.
Now that you are gone.
The work of this life is done.
May the angels safeguard your soul,
Until I've paid life's toll.
No doubt we will see each other again,
Just a little bit further down the lane.
R.I.P. Grandpa (passed away at 14:30 today).
This is a poem challenge by @Jessicalynnt
boom, fire, lights, summer, pie.

It's crap when loved ones die.
I've lost all my grandparents and my mum.

@DianneN thank you! indeed. It sounds the same case with my grandpa.
my condolences to you and your husband. It was never easy, because we always want to try, and not give up.

@Drosophila They pulled the plug on my husband's brother last month. He wanted it that way and had it in his will. He wouldn't have lived without the respirator and his blood pressure was extremely low. I think it's hardest on the living.
Again, my deepest sympathy to you and his loved ones.

@CRK109 Thank you! I don't think they are ever truly gone, no. Though, I do hope his final journey to the resting place has been completed

@Drosophila He'll be watching over you now. It's always amazing to me when I feel my father around me. He's been gone since 1980 but every so often I can feel his presence in the room with me. And it's a beautiful feeling and it makes me smile. they are never truly gone from us.

@puddleglum indeed! The swimming lessons were the best, I was so afraid of water as a child, no one could teach me to swim. He did the impossible. But really it's because I trusted him like no other instructors, I was able to learn to swim

In some way, they never leave us...they are as close as our DNA. When I was first seeing my parents sick, and had to face the reality of their eventual deaths...that was a thought that just, I don't know, kinda snuck up on me and for some reason took deep roots, kinda similar to the line in the Creed "the Communion of Saints"-I am sorry for your loss:(.

Thank you! I have accepted as the unfortunate realities we all have to face.
It helps alot, but sometimes does not. I was particularly close to this grandpa, as I spent a considerable amount of time in his house when I was growing up.
