Beware of phone scams

Recently I got a call from DHL or so it seems, that I have a parcel detained due to some illegal stuff. Of course, I know of no such delivery so I just hung up the phone. You would think that people would be smart enough to not fall for such scams but you will be surprised to learn that many have been scammed of millions of dollars through this method. Even if you think you are smart enough to outsmart or out talk them you may become a victim. So the best thing is not to engage them else you may be divulging more personal info than you'd planned. Do you have such an experience? What was your reaction?

If I do not know a number I do not answer. If I am on the phone with someone running a scam, I hang up. Yes, some people are fooled and that is why the scams still exist, for the random people who are deceived.

I had no calls, but I receive forget emails from DHL or UPS that ask me to give my details. Of course I ignore them. If I am waiting for something, I do not reply, but I call the company.

Yes, these emails are a real nuisance. How does one report them other than ignoring them?

@succeednow Some companies (like PayPal) have an email address where to report this kind of scam emails. I should check online if there is an organization where to report them.

My mother-in-law's experience is those phoning her that she won a prize and she have to go to their office to claim it . Good thing , i told them to NEVER fall on those scams , because once they go to their offices , they would hypnotize the person into buying very expensive products by using the credit cards .

@SIMPLYD Lucky thing she told you first instead of going and falling into their trap. Most elderly people are not aware of such scams and can be convinced easily.

Scammers thought that all people are so naive to be fooled.

@acelawrites In fact, scammers know that not all people are so naive to be fooled but they also know that some people are just so gullible that they are able to use this method to take advantage of their naivety.

I haven't had that scam. But I did have a piece of mail saying I had a package that wasn't delivered and for me to call a number. I looked up the number on the computer and found out it was a scam so I tore that piece of paper in pieces and threw it away.

Thank you, so true This is very common.Like someone telling me I won a lottery and I needed to give my account number to transfer the money ...I told them to keep it! Did you meet someone who was duped?

@responsiveme Personally I do not know of anyone but there are so many local news report of people getting scammed. Recently there was one lady who was scammed of her $100,000 life savings. Although a police report has been made, I don't think she can get back her money.
