Preparing to be Bored

I went to the library on Friday to pick up a couple of books to take with me to New York. I had a list of ten books I wanted to read this summer. I picked out three, The Ladies Room by Carolyn Brown, Seraphina by Rachel Hartman, and Dark Tides by Chris Ewan. The Ladies Room is a humorous romance and I’ve had it on my list for quite a while. Seraphina is a young adult fantasy fiction and Dark Tides is a thriller. I thought I did a good job of picking out books, but when my husband saw the stack of books, he scowled. “I know you’re not looking forward to spending two weeks with MY family, but I don’t think you’ll be bored.” I told him, “Better safe than sorry.” Actually I enjoy his family, but I can only sit around and visit for so long. An occasional break with time on the computer and engrossed in a good book will make it easier to maintain a positive attitude. Do you take reading material along when you go on vacation?

I always have my iPad for reading downloaded books. That leaves more room in my luggage for other things. Otherwise, I prefer hardcover or paperbacks at home. Have fun, anyway. Lol!

I prefer to read from my Kindle but I'm trying not to download so many books. Books from the library are free.

@BettyB Even if you just read a bit at bedtime; it's worth bringing a book.

Of course I do! It is part of it. Actually, as this week I´m going for my vacation, I am very unhappy that noone I know can download kindle or amazon in my tablet so that I can buy ebooks.

Some families would need MORE than 3 books to survive a trip to see them.

Well, I will have my laptop with me. If I finish the three books, I'll write. I need to get back to that anyway.

I like to read and that is one of the things I enjoy on vacation even if that vacation is spent at home.

@KristenH I think I'll take one of those after traveling half the summer. We're heading to NYC tomorrow night. We'll be there two weeks, home for two and then I'm heading to Minnesota for another two weeks.

I always bring along a book whenever I am out. It does not matter if I am just going for grocery shopping or a short trip out of country. I will never be without a book. I think 3 books for 2 weeks are reasonable. You just need to read an hour every night, and you can finish all the books.

I've already read one. The second I'll read while I'm here. My husband likes to sleep in. I'll have at least an hour every morning to read. The third I'll save for the drive home.

Whenever I go anywhere where I'm going to be doing a lot of sitting, I bring something to read. I haven't been on a vacation in years, but I have been bored to tears in other things that take an immense amount of time out of my day, like my trips to Milwaukee to the dentist. Right now I'm reading John Grisham's novel Gray Mountain. It's an edge of your seat page turner.

I try to take a book wherever I go as it stops getting so impatient if I have to wait for whatever.

No, I don't carry books; just my cellphone and other personal things because I want to enjoy the place. But in your case, you know the situation so it is alright to carry those books so you can maximize your time.

I know my husband won't roll out of bed until eleven. We're staying with one of his brothers but they will be going to work. His other brother and his wife will be off. We'll head over there right after lunch each day. I will not be taking a book with me.

It's been a while since I went on vacation, but I don't think I did for that vacation. When I go visit family I usually bring a book, but I don't always get a chance to read it.

No. never. Do the things at the appropriate place is always good and should be followed. Reading a book while traveling is accepted but spending time reading a book is not at all favored by me. Vacations are meant for traveling, sharing with friends, and do some useful things either for a house or for yourself. Spending such vacation reading books may,in my opinion, does not seem to be appropriate.

My husband likes to sleep in but I don't. What reading I do will be early in the morning before the rest of the household is up. It will not take away time spent with family and friends, or the things we plan to do.
