Absence makes the heart grow fonder

A line from a song, "Isle of Beauty, Fare Thee Well." by T.H. Bayly in the1800s. It's not even close to "I miss you soooo much!"
When my husband and I were ocean away from each other for more than a month, our absence from one another brought about that deeper longing for each other's company and friendship. At least that's how we both felt while away. Skyping and text messaging sufficed a little bit.
So, distance does sweeten and renew our love when we are apart for a time. The reunion and expectancy of each other was a fresh comeback. That's what, "Absence makes the heart grow fonder" to my husband and me of 30 years.

Well I guess for us it did. My husband and I we're barely married for a year and he was deployed. He was gone for a year. I was a hard time for both of us but we got through it and 15 years later we're still together and I feel like we're stronger together because of that.

A situation like yours and your husband, I can imagine, is very difficult-- not knowing what beholds in the future. Thankfully, you and your husband have always been taken providentially care of. Hugs to both of you.

Congratulations as newly weds! Colene @cpefley It wasn't hard on my part (guilt, guilt) because we had children for him to look after while I visited with my newly widowed mom. He was very sweet to grand me (and pay for my tickets) so I could have a break from my duties for a month.

@everwonderwhy That must have been nice to get away, but so sorry for your mother. :(

Of course there is always the other side of the coin 'Out of sight, out of mind'. Ha - just playing Devil's Advocate here!
Here's a quote from 'Maximes d'Amour - "Absence is to love what wind is to fire; it extinguishes the small, it enkindles the great".
Btw - I've been happily married for 51 years, and we have survived quite a few separations.

Wow, 51 years! I admire both of your steady love for each other-- both 'enkindling the great' within you. That, I think lasts long all our days.

I agree. Although there's that element of missing each other, it was refreshing to be away for awhile, as he took care of our children. He sent money for my shopping. Which was wonderful! :-)

And when absence doesn't matter, everything needs to be worked upon or left
