Outrageous Trends: Dental braces in Parts of Asia

In some parts of Asia such as, Thailand, Indonesia, and China, children are flocked to beauty salons or boutique to have removable fashionable dental braces put in. It doesn't matter whether their teeth are crooked or pristine. As long as your 'gold coins' are where your mouth is.
It's crazy, in my opinion, to spend money on dental braces because they are a symbol of wealth, status and prestige.

@sofssu Hehehe, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder," as the old saying goes.

If they're not to serve as correction/retainers, they're quite cumbersome to maintain and decorate the mouth. LOL!

You can add the Philippines to those countries. Teens with perfect teeth still opt to get these removable braces because in is the 'in' thing to do. Talk about fads taking over common sense!

It appears that money is no issue to the parents that go along side their children's capriciousness. If my childen want them, I'd tell my to get jobs and work hard for those trendy mouth contraptions.

@everwonderwhy I think some parents do support their children with their wants no matter how foolish it may seem.

I think some of them are ill-informed. In other words they are ignorant that they are spending money unwisely. What a waste!

"Ridiculous" is the first word that comes to mind. ;( My oldest nephew just had braces removed, and my brother and sister in law are certainly not rich or have any prestige.

I agree. My daughter did too have real ones, and we paid for hers, installment, for a year. They were needful at the time. Our 16 year old son needs braces, but we keep putting it off for almost 3 years now. :-/
