Got Scared by The High Results !

Last Saturday , I went back to the hospital to see the results of my last Thursday’s medical laboratory exams .
When I asked the assistant for my copy , she gave it to me .
I readily got it and was excited to see the result , only to be shocked to see that the uric acid result was at 540 + when the normal was at 214.29 -458.33 !
The cholesterol was also so high , about 7.00 + when the normal was at 3.90 -5.20 !
I got scared and blurted out to the assistant ,” I wonder why I have very high than the normal results for my uric acid when it's usually below normal and same goes with my cholesterol ? “
She then , realized her mistake and apologized . She gave me what should be for the guy , sitting with them in the counter ! Oh my !
I heaved a sigh of relief , when she gave me my own result . My uric acid result was below the normal and so with my cholesterol while all the rest were normal .
Would you get scared too , if shown over the normal medical laboratory result ?

i'm rather horrified that she didn't check better to see who's results she was handin' o'er - a HIPA violation here, we guard ones medical quite stiffly.
sure'm glad to hear though that'cher still doin' well. i tend to not get 'xcited o'er my lab reports - they tend to run the gamut, with false highs 'n lows due to some medical conditions.

that is negligence on the part of the medical technologist to give you the wrong laboratory findings. so, why is your uric acid below the normal range? i wonder

@ridingbet Actually , the assistant already knows me well . Just looking at my face , she knows my name already .
It just so happened that the guy in the counter who is an employee there also , is also asking for his lab result also . So she inadvertently gave it to me .
The guy then asked me how i managed to have a low cholesterol and low uric acid levels .

@SIMPLYD well my lady, if you are a regular client of that laboratory, thy should also be aware of the results they give you. just a look at your face and they should already know your name.

@softbabe44 Well, it was an honest mistake because she inadvertently gave me teh lab reault of her co-employee ( a male nurse ) waiting for it and seated with them at the counter . We just laughed it off.

@SIMPLYD I sure wouldn't like that either what happens if your test results ended up in someone else's hands? Doesn't give the clinic a very good outlook when taking chances with things like that.

@just4him Thank you .
All i have in mind is that we just have to be always understanding to these assistants because we would be dealing with them always to go to their bosses, the doctors . Being strict or unkind would might make them not be gracious to us the next time .

Indeed. She apologized and gave me mine . It was the result of the man waiting by their counter.
When i told the man that mine were even below the normal , she asked me what i am doing to keep it low.

It is specially dangerous when people at hospitals mix up results of exams

Yes. But good thing the result has the name . What if the blood samples was erroneously switched. . I think , if that happens , i will again take the lab exams , just to be sure since you know for yourself , it's not supposedly be that high. .

I always start with trying t find my name on those medical documents A very similar experience like yours some years back, has made me realize that these people too are humans and do have a chance of committing mistakes.
As for the reports being normal... well there are a few of mine that should be done yearly... and both of these keep rising beyond the prescribed limits. Initially I did feel scared but now, I feel... like the inflation, these numbers on my reports too get inflated every year

I was too confident it was mine indeed so i didn't take a look at the name anymore . Yes , after all she's human too .
Don't you hvae medications for them , not to go higher but within the normal?
I took the medicine as prescribed two months ago by the doctor for my cholesterol , so that was expected really to go down. , though i was surprised that it has gone lower than the normal .

oh yes, but as fore me I have high uric acid and not that high but still high cholesterol?!? lol
I was expecting my sugar will be the highest one but fortunately for me, it was way beyond normal
I am always afraid if my sugar level is elevated because I have a sweet tooth and I am a very sweet person.

Yes, having a higher than normal level of blood sugar would mean diabetes , and that is scary too to have that because it has lots of complications . High cholesterol can still be medicated and change of eating habits , lifestyle and having some exercise will help lower it down .

Raw vegan cleanse can get rid of uric acid actually but that diet is depressing. I am glad that your result is normal and not a scary one.

She was careless, you got nervous with that results, and to think that if you have very high uric acid, you feel pain in the knees, etc. just like having rheumatism.
