Huge Surprise Bill

So last month when I was having all of these strange pains I decided to go ahead and go to the emergency room because my doctor couldn't do anything for me. Well guess what I received in the mail today? A huge bill for $850 for that visit to the ER where I didn't even get seen until 5 hours after I signed in. I am going to have to call our insurance and have this problem solved because they have done this before with a visit for my son from before he was 1 year old and gave us a bill months after he turned 1. I find it funny how they are supposed to raise the bill after every 1-2 months, but I didn't get this bill until almost about 1 month later. I am not paying for this, I don't have the money for it! I don't need this stress 3 days before my wedding! Have you ever had this happen to you? Were you able to fix it?

Not exactly, I hope you get your insurance company to take care of it, if not, you may have to set up a payment plan with the hospital.

Bills from our hospital never come promptly. ER services and visits are the most expensive forms of medical care. I hope your insurance will cover it.

I haven't had that experience but you should be able to submit that Bill to your insurance company and they will take care of it. It can be a lot of stress so hopefully you hear from them soon

Most hospitals have programs where they'll discount or forgive balances based on income, or work out payment plans for the balance to be paid off over several months. Call the billing department and see what can be worked out if that is the amount you end up owing after insurance pays for the visit. I've been able to work things out for everything that I couldn't pay immediately with our local hospital and my OB's office. And letting it sit for a few days while you finish putting the last touches on your wedding isn't going to be the end of the world. Just make a note in your phone so it will send you a reminder and you won't forget to deal with it afterwards. Oh, and congratulations!

Just submit the bill to your insurance. No reason to stress.
