And They Say its Hot Down South…

I have a lot of friends throughout the United States. Some complain about where they live, especially in the winter when they’re buried up to their eyebrows in snow.
When they start complaining, I suggest they move to South Carolina and the first thing they say is that it’s too hot in South Carolina in the summer.
Well, we’re sitting in New York City, a northern city, this week and let me tell you, it’s HOT! South Carolina is hot in the summer but we’re prepared for it. My brother-in-law has AC in the bedrooms but not the rest of the house. We knew that and tried to plan this trip for early June, but it didn’t pan out.
I guess I’m spoiled. I miss my air conditioned house.
How do you handle the heat in the summer?

We try to stay inside when it's hot. We open up the house early to take advantage of any coolness then we close the house up as soon as the heat starts to penetrate. We have air-conditioning but only put it on if we really have to.

I agree, we let the cool in, then try to trap it. We drink lots of cold drinks, I personally take frequent short showers. Humidity causes a lot of issues as well.

It wasn't as hot when I got up this morning, but the temperatures will climb again today. We will be here for another week, but I'm looking forward to heading home. I will not willingly come here in July again.

like we are doing here in Florida, central air and all the things in my room including a fan and dehumidifier and I still suffer with breathing.

I am sitting in my air conditioned family room and we spend a lot of time in the pool. We hate this heat.

I'll pay whatever extra I have to. If its hot, I'm turning the AC on.

oh my, some folks jest aint equipped fer such weather :( i've e'en friends'n england who nearly melted a few years back when they were faced with oppressive heat - most unusual fer 'em.
we'd an evaporative cooler here fer years, one that jest sat'n a window. which meant that end'f the house 'twas an iceberg'n the other still hot, lol. took years to convince the hubs to put'n central air. 's made a world 'f diff'rence'n our comfort.
outdoors, i've my wee sanctuary, with a sprinkler system 'round 3 sides. with the aide'f the trees/vines ' that, the temp quickly'll drop 20-25 degrees with out winds - an outdoor evaporative system :)

I use my air conditioner and stay in the cool rooms. Outside I stay in the shade and try to stay where I can feel a breeze. We broke down a couple years ago and bought a portable air conditioner for our room because the wall air conditioner for the rest of the house didn't really cool our room. Some times, if I'm trying to keep our electric bill down, it feels cooler outside so we just spend as much time out there in the shade and then turn on the a/c at bedtime.

The house we are in has only a/c for the bedrooms at this time. It makes a big difference, however, if you are in a city with lots of pavement and brick and no airflow, or if you are more rural, as we are, surrounded by greenery and trees.
