I have been trading plants with some members on a Facebook group. I sometimes find such good bargains for my excess plants. Yesterday one lady agreed to trade some fabulous plants for a few of mine (which I thought were junk) . The picture I have posted here is of one of those she offered.
This way I spend just the bare minimum on postage and get plants at near to nothing costs. This not only satisfies my terrible addiction to having/buying plants but it also curbs my expenditure on plants.
The best part about this system is that you get to chat with people and get easy tips and trick on growing some exotic plants.
Sometimes it seem one mans junk is another man's fortune!
I am clearly enjoying swapping and bartering over buying. I am are sure hubs is too.
If we many of us resort to trading plants with one another we would soon put nurseries and garden centers out of business. What do you think?

My daughter and I operate on the barter system all the time though not for plants but for services and shopping.

@BelleStarr Okay I can understand that.. I guess mothers tend to pass a lot of valuable stuff to daughters in the name of barter.

@SIMPLYD Its a cactus it looks gorgeous when it bloom.. otherwise it looks like dried sticks.. She wanted football lilies which I have in plenty. Yes mother Earth will find some comfort in the fact that we are helping her give expression in every nook and corner.

I would have nothing to trade, then again, cuttings of the rose bush out front might suffice.

@Jessicalynnt Roses cuttings are always popular. Though people prefer rooted cutting as I have noticed in my group.

I think the nurseries and related shops will thrive even without our help.
I do bartering for my glass-eye exams and my dental work. I clean their homes or siding or windows to go against my bill. I always owe them more than they owe me though. But at least I don't have to pay for all of it out of pocket.

wow, a most interestin' succulent! sounds like a great deal to me'n how schtuff 'twas done "back'n the day". i'd love to put those places outta business myself (locally anyhow) coz they're prone to sellin' schtuff that'll not live here 'n refuse to get that'n which will.

@crazyhorseladycx Absolutely.. 'Exotics' fetches them more money than local plants do.. In the process we bring plants and trees that may not survive or do well in our environment. It may even be dangerous in the sense that they maybe prone to certain diseases and pest attacks which could spread to other local vegetation.
