Favorite 70's One-Hit Wonders #6 - "Driver's Seat"

In the late 1970's, new wave was gaining a foothold within the music scene, and one band that took advantage was London's Sniff 'n' the Tears, with their 1978 hit "Driver's Seat," #6 in my Favorite 70's One-Hit Wonders series. Led by the band's only constant, vocalist/guitarist Paul Roberts, Sniff 'n' the Tears formed in 1977. And while I wouldn't consider it a new wave tune in the sense that I consider Joe Jackson's "I'm the Man" new wave, the group rode the genre's coattails all the way to #15 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart. It is their only appearance in the Top 40. I guarantee they play it during every live appearance, most likely as the final encore. And it would be worth the wait. (I'm using the rules from Wayne Jancik's book The Billboard Book of One-Hit Wonders: An act can only have appeared on the Top 40 of the Hot 100 once. Any sub-charts don't count, and neither do countries other than the States.)
Sniff 'n the tears - Driver's seat Full song with video re-editing Enjoy H.Q. sound.

I never heard of this song or group. No, it is not new wave. More of a solid rocker with a "modern" 80s sound.

Did you notice that half the band had a 70's new wave look going, the other half didn't? Funny.

Love this song! I did consider it, but it didn't make it past the first cut.

It was actually the second one I thought of.
