Changing some of the flower beds

I have several flower beds around my house but there's a few that my husband and I weren't happy with. One of them we changed last week and thankfully that change was easy. We had one bed that was mostly day lilies with a few Asiatic and Oriental lilies in it. The day lilies were mostly Stella de Oro day lilies, and though they are very pretty, we decided it was just too much yellow in that one spot. We have now added in some orange day lilies with much taller flowers, a red variety that should be between the height of the Stellas and the orange ones, and a few Purple de Oro's that should be the same size as the Stella de Oros. We also added a couple more Oriental lilies in the bed too. Hopefully that should break up the color enough. The other flower bed we are changing is significantly more work to do than just taking a few flowers out and putting some in. We've decided to take out part of the flower bed on one side of our driveway and put grass there. We are also removing all the river rock that was between the flower bed and the driveway. We are replacing the rock with brick so that our driveway will be a little bit wider (it's too small to comfortably get in the car if there are two parked on the driveway). My husband also wants a spot off the sidewalk for our grill so we will be putting in a grilling pad too. That will also be made out of bricks. Part of the flower bed will be moved to go around the grill pad and the rest of the flower bed is being shifted closer to the sidewalk so we can get rid of the rock by that part too. When it's done the flower bed on the one side of the sidewalk will match the one on the other side much more than it does right now. We decided to get rid of the one part of the flower bed so that our kids will have more yard to play in and hopefully they will be able to keep the balls they play with out of my flowers. The picture I've included shows the whole bed if you look closely. The part at the bottom of the picture is the part we are taking out the whole length of the driveway. Where the bed turns is where we plan on putting the grill pad and moving the bed around that pad. The rest of the bed is the part we are moving closer to the sidewalk. The dirt around the flowerbed by the driveway is where all the rock was. I forgot to take the picture before the rocks were removed. We took out about 19 or 20 cat litter buckets (the ones in the picture) of rocks.

I wish I had the talent and patience to grow flower beds. Yours looks great and I bet will look amazing as it blooms...by now it probably already has. We get orange day lilys that grow wild all over. That ls about all I can keep alive in my yard lol

Your flower beds look wonderful. I'm afraid to try to change mine, although it looks like a lot more work than I want to take on.

That's a lot of work, but it will be worth it in the end.

It sounds like you and your husband will be busy for quite a while.

I love your flower beds, I am not in a place where I could tend to something so large, I do look forward to being able to work outside more someday. I am currently fighting with some hydrangea's I got for mothers day, they want to die, I don't want them to.

You certainly have a lot of work going on, but I'm sure you will be happy when it's over. I wish I could have flower beds, but the deer eat everything!

Those changes will be quite a lot of work but it will be worth it when you have finished.
