Thyroid

I haven't been on for a while because I have been dealing with some family issues. I have hypothyroidism and have to take medication every day for the rest of my life for it. It is a huge struggle for me because I have a very hard time remembering to take it. I know that a lot of people can't understand how taking a pill once a day can be hard for someone to remember. Unfortunately, with this disease it impedes on your memory. I try really hard to remember, even using alarms, notes, etc. I still have a hard time because I can say I'll take it as soon as I'm done going to the bathroom, but by the time I come out, I've already forgotten. I know that the majority of people still can't understand how this can be such a hard thing to remember but it is. Anyway, I have been practically begging my daughter to get her thyroid checked because she has been showing signs and symptoms of a thyroid condition. The only difference is that she's been showing signs and symptoms of HYPERthyroidism, which is the opposite of mine. HYPO is the inability to produce enough thyroid hormone. HYPER is when the thyroid produces too much of the hormone. She finally went to the emergency room to get it checked recently, after my neice's best friend hounded her everyday, and found out she has hyperthyroidism/graves disease. As I sat in the er waiting for them to give us the results of her bloodwork I just knew in my gut she had it. Then the doctor told us that she went to the er just in time because her heart rate was "through the roof" (which is one of the symptoms). I felt the blood drain out of my face when he said if she leaves without getting immediate help she would die. I didn't expect to hear that. I felt like throwing up when he said that. I looked at my young beautiful daughter and begged her to stay there because I can't live without her, and neither could her children. I'm heartbroken that she has this and will have to struggle for the rest of her life with this disease, but I am relieved that it's finally confirmed and with medication, heart and blood monitoring she will be able to fight the good fight. I urge everyone to get their thyroid checked. Most doctors won't if there is no family history but you can insist. I am truly grateful to my niece's best friend for reaching out to my daughter and convincing her to go. She also has grave's disease and knew the symptoms my daughter has were exactly that. I told her she is truly my daughter's guardian angel. She's and earth bound angel for sure.

Children seldom want to listen to their moms so she is indeed blessed to have someone else in her life to help motivate her.

Yes I agree. She is doing much better now that she has the medication needed and is very active with making sure she remembers to take it. She's even starting to look better and not so tired and weak.
