How do you feel when you receive text messages from Western Union stating that a John Doe whom you do know has been confirmed that he received the money from you. So strange that you do not even know the person and even you did not send any money yet. This had happened to me at least thrice a week. Am starting to think of going to police and report the matter. Is there anyone that is using my name as a sender, and if so isn't it illegal? Please advise.

It wouldn't surprise me if the text messages didn't come from Western Union. I've had phishing emails that are similar.

@zearah I get a lot of emails stating that they are from Western Union and a host of other financial institutions. They aren't though.

You have the point but it was clearly stated that sender was Western Union and name of beneficiaries vary from Indian Nationals to Arabs. I am currently working in Qatar.

I think they wrote a number down wrong or something. Report it to Western Union. Someone else is probably waiting for the message you received.

But it had happened for so many times like three times a week.

@zearah I'm saying that they probably have the number wrong. If you feel like you are being harassed, threatened, or in danger, call the police.

Thankfully I do not get text messages like this. Probably because I called the Do not call registery and added my phone number so I won't get scammy calls or telemarketers. I do get lots of emails though but most of those just go to my spam folder.

That is good but places like Qatar will not let you do any remittance from Western Union without having your mobile being registered in their system. :*

You should contact western union first to confirm what is happening.

There are at least three similar text messages on a different beneficiaries each week since 19 May 2016. At first I feel surprised but after two and the other texts I started feel disappointed.

Before contacting the police it would be better to contact Western Union. As it is a text message over phone may be they are sending them to your phone by mistake.

As you know money laundering is a very critical issue and it looks like my cell number has been used for several times which is so unusual.

yeah, the best thing to do is to go to western union and report the incident. If they don't act on it, report it to the police, at least there will be a report about this situation.
