Too Hot Outside For Everything

Today, we have reached the pinnacle of a heat-wave. The temperature reached 92 F today (33 Celsius), with 70% humidity, making the day too hot for outdoor activities. We stayed at home and we have taken a relaxing bath in the hot tub in the garden. The cold, bubbling water, just warmed by the sun, has been perfect to feel refreshed. Tonight we plan to dine on the patio after the sun goes down. Cold meats, cheese and mixed salad with a chilled glass of white wine, a perfect dinner for a too hot day. What do you do when it's too hot to do anything?

When it is too hot to do anything outside I stay in the house with the AC going and read or do something around the house.

We have no AC, almost no house in Switzerland has AC, we have only some hot days in one year. Tonight we should have a strong thunderstorm and I am sure that tomorrow it will be fine.

There is no heatwave in England, though it's been quite pleasant. That hot tub looks very inviting, and your meal sounds perfect.

The decision to eat outdoor is an invitation for the storm. Many times I had to rush everything inside.

@jaboUK The storm declined the invitation, it came a lot later, around 3 in the morning. Today it's not so hot and in the afternoon another storm should make the temperature drop another 8 Celsius.

When it's too hot here we usually just suffer. Probably the best thing to do is go to Silver Lake and jump in the water. It won't be very warm no matter how hot it gets.

@LadyDuck Our lake is not very deep but it is spring fed so the water is very cold. There is an old mill dam that accounts for most of its volume. I'm not even sure there would be a lake if not for the dam. Oh and it has an official beach with a lifeguard.

@koopharper There are several official beaches on our lakes, but people love to go to swim where the river enters the lake, the water is very cold, because the rivers comes down from the mountains.

We had a few 33-36 degree days last week, today is cooler and less humid. On the really hot days, we move slowly and enjoy smaller cold plates too. We also eat a lot of fruit in that weather.

@LadyDuck I just hate the summer's heat, I tend to get weak from it. I must be one of the few that prefer the winter's cold over the summer's heat. I can at least stay indoors and not be so affected by the winter's cold, but you have to be like a hermit if you stay indoors in the summer.

We thought that a pool in Switzerland is a waste of money, you can use it only a few weeks a year. We use the hot tub from mid May until mid October. Right now I do not heat the water, when it's colder I do.

That is a very nice way to avoid the heat outside - taking a dip in that tub of yours . And what better thing to do than dine in your patio when the sun goes down . So romantic ! I am sure your hubby is so happy for this idea of yours . As of me , when it's too hot outside , i would just stay inside our bedroom , watch TV , play a game on my phone or do myLotting or go to FB .

dang, kinda makes me wish the hubs'd get busy'n repair our hot tub. the thoughts'f cool bubbles sure makes me happy! 'twas 105 degrees here today, with e'en the poor birds pantin'. the grackles're bein' bullies 't the pond'n not allowin' the smaller birds access to the falls. se'eral've showed't the window, beggin' fer inteference. 'course all leave when i go out..'n i melt. i've been stayin' indoors 's 'f late 'xcept fer the wee early hours'r morn 'r jest prior to dusk. crohn's flares'n heat aint good combos. i've fans goin' full speed 'n 'tis still 'bout 90 degrees indoors. i'd love to climb'n the freezer right now :)

@crazyhorseladycx Using bubblewrap to heat the water is a great idea, it is incredible how hot the water can become only heating with the sun. I loved the old clawfoot tubs, I remember we had one in the old house where I was born.

@LadyDuck oh, the hubs didn't drain't proper the first year i 'twas hit with illness - froze'n broke the heater, with the only option bein' a new'un since 'tis an older model, quite spendy. then, the next year he again didn't drain't proper 'n now water leaks out. we'd used bubblewrap 'n the top'f the tub to heat the water (one had to keep'n eye out coz itd sometimes breach that 120 degree level jest from the sun!) 'fore this last mishap. i wish he'd jest haul't off...'long with lots'f his other broken/not needed schtuff. i've 2 antique clawfoot tubs that'd look jest lovely settin' 'n its space where's one could't least take a dip'n relax with no fuss 'bout heaters 'n busted lines :)

We would need the air conditioning more or less 10 days a year, so we did not install it. When it's hot and humid we stay in the family room in the basement, it's always naturally fresh, because it's opened only on one side.

I have visited Nevada, it is much more hot, but it's dry. I do not know if you have ever experienced heat with 70 or even 80% humidity. You almost cannot breath and the "heat sensation" of 90 F is comparable to 110 F in a dry area.
