I found this article on walking very informative and will share some of the facts here. At the bottom is a link to the article if you are interested. Recent analysis on walking finds that this exercise is even better than working out at the gym. Walking for 30 minutes 5 times a week is a good weight maintenance strategy. Going at a brisk pace for 45-60 minutes will help to lose weight. Walking is very good for losing weight, keeping weight off and prevents weight gain. Counting as aerobic exercise walking is beneficial to physical functioning. It can improve lung function and help with obstructive sleep apnea. this has also been found to help and delaying cognitive decline. Mobility is also improved. Daily brisk walking also improves cardiovascular health, joint mobility and lung function. Brain function is also a factor. Walking helps to give you a better quality of life due to the above mentioned factors and increased longevity.
Which form of exercise will keep off the pounds? Thankfully, the best is also the easiest.

Right now the best I can do is five minutes on the treadmill. I haven't done that in a while due to it's present location, but since I plan on taking it with me, I will hop on every day and hope to get up to that 30-60 minutes. It will take a lot of time to do that in the shape I'm in.

@just4him Careful on the treadmill. That's what stirred my sciatica into high gear.

@sallypup Right now I'm going at the lowest possible speed. I can't go any faster. Hopefully I'll be able to crank it up a bit higher soon.

Walking is a great exercise ! One should must walk for at least 2-3kms everyday rather than counting the amount the of rounds which we covered in the park.

We all have our own way of measuring how long we walk. I don't measure by kms.

I enjoy walking in the rain. As long as it isn't too heavy a rain.

I agree. I'm finding it harder to walk as long a time as I used to. My back muscles get antzy. The temps are supposed to go to only 80 today so I should take the dogs in and walk with them and my hubby before supper. Thanks for the kick in the patootie.

Have you tried taking a pain pill before you go? That usually helped me. It's good to take advantage of the lower temps.
