I prefer insant messages because you get to answer faster and you can talk at the same time with the person whom you wanna talk to and if you send an e-mail you have to wait several hours to get the answer.

I do both. I have a phone with a querty keyboard that can IM . And that is really nice too. I feel that IM is more like talking and emailing goes into more depth.
