The Reason Why

Why is it called the Friday Dish?
Is this the real reason why the sauteed mung beans or "ginisang monggo" is called the Friday Dish here in the Philippines?
When I attended my review classes for my board exam, my roommates told me about this Friday dish. That was the first time I heard of it and so their reason was the one that was retained in my mind.
They said, during their college days, when Friday comes, they usually cook this sauteed mung beans. It's not because it is not allowed to eat meat during that day (this is the other reason of others that I learned later on), but because they do not have any more budget so that's all they can afford, mung beans and bitter melon leaves.
Now, I am thinking if this is also the reason of others why they call it as such!
It is already Wednesday here and I am thinking of cooking this dish on Friday, but not because I have no more budget, but because I am craving for it. Hihihi I will put pork rinds and lots of bitter melon leaves. I might add bitter melon fruit, too. And maybe, some squash and okra, too.

Hmm , so they have that as a reason why it's called a Friday dish . It is really understandable why .
Yes, you can add some pork rinds on it indeed . Hubby likes it with tinapa bits , not meat . I also like it to have lots of bitter melon leaves . So delicious this way .

Speaking of Mung beans, I decided to use Chili leaves instead of bitter melon leaves today. It is actually my lunch today.

It became popular to Filipinos to cook munggo for Fridays. It's a delicious ulam. I want it with some coconut milk and lots of leaves, sili leaves or ampalaya leaves. It's our lunch to day too.

Yup, it is delicious and nutritious at the same time. They said, you have to wash it for about ten times to lessen its purine. Hmmmm I am not sure if that is effective. My father also has that problem so he just tastes half a spoon when we cook it at home.

I remember you made a post about this a day or days ago and I responded to it.
So now we have the reason why it's a Friday dish.

Yup, but they said the reason is that because Friday is a no meat day. Hmmm Now I wonder which is the real reason why it is called as such. Hihihi
