I Have Obviously Made a Mistake...

...in accepting all the friends invitations since now I am getting at least 5 pieces of spam a day! (Get rich quick schemes, affiliation junk etc) It is irritating beyond belief because in the message section you have to click on the message to open then you can´t even delete them! I don´t have time today but on Monday I am going to delete everyone who´s sent me friend invitations except those who definitely aren´t going to bombard me with this crap! Is myLot really your only platform for promoting your rubbish? I really don´t see the point of the friends section since all I get is spam through it. If I want a friendly discussion I can post a thread on the board.

Wow sorry to hear that you have to go through that many messages a day. Thankfully, my spam like that stopped when the friends list was added. Another thing that has also helped is that alot of private messages that I have sent and that have been sent to me haven't gone through. Maybe I have been getting the same spam and it just hasn't been getting all the way thorugh to me. Good luck modifying your friends list.

I am so sorry that this has happened to you. It is really rude to use this platform as a way to spam people who were just trying to be nice to you. I can promise you that I have not spammed you or anyone else on my friends' list and would not dream of doing so. I hope you get it all sorted.

Thanks Lillith. I know you´re one of the genuine ones. You´ve never been anything other than polite and friendly on here.

I've got about 20-25 friends here at myLot and have not received spam from any of them. Thank you one and all! It is very irritating when you get spam from so many people. Don't give up on everyone in here, Victoria. There are others in here, including myself, who would never send out spam to those who are on their friends list.

I know. There are some genuinely nice people (like you!) on here too. I wasn´t meaning to tar everyone with the same brush.

I also had send some of that link kind of mail to my friends SORRY and VERY SORRY everyone of you who think it was spam but since I didn't want to start a stupid discussion about my site I had sent the mail to my friends.I also have recieved few links in return.I didn't find them as spam.Just checked ou and didn't join which I didn't like.Actually I think all my friends were just trying to help each otrher out.I added all of them randomly but Till date no one has actually spammed or send me ugly mails.I wish to thank all of them for being nice.

Sending spam is not "helping" - people send affiliate links (ie where you get commission for referrals or earn from it) for their own ends, not to "help" some stranger they´ve never met! Maybe if I´d have received 1 or 2 links only, I wouldn´t have felt so inundated.

Of course it is, it is just irritating you have to do this. I think it would be better if, instead of receiving a choice to "accept or deny" the person who wants to be a friend, they had to put a sentence as a reason, ie "like to meet new people from all over the world" or "like your discussions, got a question to ask you privately about one" or "we both love dogs, let´s be friends" etc else you get random strangers and wonder who they are and why they want to join your friends list!

Yes I know what you mean. I have always only accepted people only AFTER reading hroug their discussions and some of their responces to other's discussions. I do this because I hate to be notified of new discussions only to log on to see they are crap. That and when I go around responding, I use the "Disucssions my friends started" function and I always have something interesting to read. :) I think that if you tried cutting them off you would have a more enjoyable time. I empathise with your inbox. I hope myLot gives us a delete function on them at some point soon. :)

Yeah, I've been frustrated with the fact that we can't delete messages, and I don't even have any spam in it! But I do wonder, also, when people send friend requests. I look to see if they responded to my posts, then what they've posted to see how they think, then what they've responded to that I may have also and maybe they liked what I said there and see what they said. If I can't figure out where they got the idea to request, I don't want to hurt any feelings so I let them hand in pending for a cuple of weeks then I deny them! I figure maybe they'll forget about it! As the person that I see you as, I would think that you have alot of friends that are sincere and enjoy your posts, so I think maybe it would be easier to delete only those who've spammed you. Might be cumbersome, but that way you won't cut out people who may be only semi-active, maybe you don't know them too well, but they really enjoy your posts. Aloha!!

I am talking about SPAM emails like "join www...some crap or other... com/affiliate79" today! Nothing to do with anti viruses. You can´t send applications (.exe files) on myLot.

I grow tired of the spammers. If I have asked for ideas that is another story. Those that respond to my discussions and only leave a post for a website, I will give them a negative rating. If they are in your friends list you should send them a request not to send you this junk. If it continues, delete them.

The best way to prevents it was delete those friends who send you spams mails...I think some might just been here to get their contacts instaed of participate on those discussions.

I know exactly what you are talking about because I myself have gotten quite a few of them myself and I did delete alot of them from my friends list because of it. They probably copied and pasted that to all the people on there friends list. But instead of almost 40 people I know have only about 9-10 maybe because of it and i wish there was a way like before that we could delete it. Maybe they will get it straightened out and we will be able to delete the messages soon. Good Luck!

you can actually delete those that sends that to you...or those that always start discussion but never responds. i've done that and i find it easier to find discussion to respond to in 'discussions my friends started'. :0)

I've been accepting them as well. Luckily I haven't had any spam messages, but I never really thought that much about it until now. Thanks for preparing me for what may come.

thats why you should be careful about who you take in as friends, and who you have asked to be friends with. I just dont want a whole bunch of strangers randomly mailing me.
