When my youngest daughter was graduating in high school, they were required to present an experimental research. She belong to the science class and she cannot graduate without it. So we think of a simple experimental research which will not cost us much. One morning we had eggs for our breakfast . Suddenly, she said, "I think I'll make use of these egg shells." So she made researches in the internet about egg shells; if it is edible, how it is processed and what are its health benefits,. Here's some of it; 1. The National Institute of Health found that eggshell powder provides many great benefits for the human body. It strengthens bones and assists the body in producing healthier cells while also lowering cholesterol and blood pressure! 2. Half of a teaspoon of the egg shell powder contains about 1,000 to 1,500 milligrams of calcium which equates to 90% of the daily recommended amount. How to prepare it; 1. Boil the eggshells for about 5 minutes to kill any harmful bacteria. Then , transfer to a cookie sheet. 2. Bake the shells in the oven at 200 degrees for 10 to 15 minutes. 3.Give the eggshells time to cool off and then grind them in a coffee grinder or food processor until it turns to a fine powder. What she did with it? She mixed it to a dish or shall we say a delicacy which we call here "Polvoron". Polvoron is a semi-sweet concoction made of toasted flour, powdered milk, sugar, and butter. It tasted fine and you cannot tell if the egg shell powder was added to it. We were the ones who ate it first. Photo credit to maruism.com Information from FaithTap

This is something new to me too. But I think it's possible. So if eggshells are really healthy then people won't just throw their egg shells away. If I turn it to powder I may not notice that there's actually egg shells on it. nice info

Yes. Egg shell powder, especially if it is really fine, could not be identified when mixed to flour.

I think many of us really don't know that these things could be eaten. I just discovered this when my daughter did her experimental research.

Hmmm yes, I had seen in a reality show before that they were taught to eat what they found in that island and the bird's egg was cooked like fried or poached and they added the shell and ate it.

@magallon yes! But I don't like it when I accidentally drop a little piece of egg shell on my scrambled egg. It's crunchy. Lol
