Summer time: I am grateful for well water

My part of the world is a sagebrush desert the minute the water is turned off. Sagebrush with deeply rooted thistle weeds.
I've put in a sweet, warm hour shoveling and yanking weeds from under our little fruit trees. Of course Sally pestered and pestered me with a ball. Leah plays with a ball for about 2 tosses then is done for the day.
A couple of the tree's branches are breaking cause they have too many apples on them. The apples are for sure not ripe but I picked some anyway. I hope to encourage the fruit left on the tree to grow larger.
Now its time to get busy on chopping apples and sitting them to boil. Sour applesauce is better than no applesauce. Might be tasty as a side for meat, too.

Here they said the apples were ready for picking a couple of weeks ago up on Green Bluff.

@RichardMeister That seems early. I wonder what kind? We had a warm start this Spring.

@sallypup The only thing I can tell you about the apples in Green Bluff is that they are small. And, yes, the news said it was early for them to be ripe. One summer when I was a teenager a group of my friends and I went up there to pick apples. It was horrible. It took forever to fill the container. When it came time to get paid we were given credit for containers we didn't fill. I started to tell them we did pick them when I got kicked in the shins. I never went back.

@sallypup Picking strawberries is hard work. I haven't done it for money but I once went to a u-pick place to get strawberries. After that experience I decided to go to a someone-else-pick place to get my strawberries. I do like picking huckleberries but I refuse to do it for money. I believe that would take all the joy out of it since my main focus would be on how many I can pick. I would rather focus on being out in the woods enjoying the scenery and taking my time rather than trying to rip my arms off picking as fast as I can move.

I'm grateful when I have fresh, clean water too. Good luck to your apple trees!

@Rohvannyn Those not ripe apples made some nice thick sauce. A tad sour but fresh.

@sallypup That's good! Fruit is great. Speaking of fruit, Fry's had a sale on blueberries - two dollars for an 18 ounce container. Needless to say, I bought two. I had them with the last of the cherries from last shopping trip.

@ANewGeneration I wonder if you could get some apples from a friend or neighbor? My Mom and me used to see fallen apples in yards, we'd knock on the owner's door and ask if we could clean up their yard?

@ANewGeneration .It could be a way to get to meet your neighbors. Here's hoping they are not grouchy.

We are having pretty mild weather in the 80s here for the moment at least. I wonder what sour applesauce will be like? Good with pork chops, maybe.
