We use them almost every day, so let's celebrate the World Emoji Day. Emoji is a Japanese word meaning pictograph. The Emojis are small digital images, that we use mixed to our texts to express a sentiment, an emotion or an idea. They were first introduced in the late 1990 on the Japanese mobile phones. They became popular worldwide when Apple introduced the emoji on their iPhones. I use them time by time to enhance my sentiments and ideas, but always in moderation. Too much of everything is always disturbing. Do you use the emoji that are available on myLot? Public Domain image by Pixabay

Yes I use them quite often - they help to convey the true meaning of what I am trying to say. A statement can sometimes seem too blunt, but if I put a smiley face on that conveys that I'm not being too serious.

I use them for the same reason, to be sure that people understand the correct meaning of my statement.

Agreed. But I still avoid them. I'm sure people have taken things seriously that were intended to be ironic (like the beginning of my most recent post).

I use some of them but sometimes the expressions mean something different to me. What I mean is - I might think a face looks anxious but the text says it's angry. I use the 'laugh' ones quite a bit.

The smile and the laugh are those that I use more. I am also surprised by the meaning of some icons. There are many more than those available on this site.

@Inlemay Yes, my mother was obsessed with children showing their tongue. If we did, we were sure to be punished. I would never use it.

My sister went into emoji overdrive and kept sending me daft messages I really had not time to read. I had to tell her to stop sending such daft things because it was far too irritating. I don't think she liked it but I could not stand it in the end I had to be quite blunt...

I understand very well because I cannot stand to see comments (or discussions) where after every phrase there are dozens of emojis.

@garymarsh6 I can understand to add a smiley at the end, but we are adults and I think we should avoid being too childish.

@LadyDuck I've always used emoji and I like the iPhone emoji as they have more choices. The choices in the Blackberry messenger before was quiet few. But I enjoyed using them when I'm sending BBMs to my friends all over the world.

@SIMPLYD Emoji is the name given to Japanese smileys used in text messages and electronic pages. The word "emoticon", on the other hand, was coined by combining "emotion" and "icon". Emoticons are little faces showing your mood or feelings, while an emoji is not necessarily a face, it can be an object, like a car or a building. What we have on myLot are emoticons and not emojis.

@LadyDuck - Ms Anna - The MyLot folks do not have to bother with adding my favorite emoji to their roster of emojis. The could mke me quite happy were they to simply send me a million bucks.
