How Was Your Ice Cream Cone Today?

Were you aware that today was National Ice Cream Day here in the United States? That's right, the third Sunday of July every year is set as the big day to celebrate all things ice cream!
The holiday was created in 1984 by a declaration of then President Ronald Reagan, who was trying to boost support for the nation's dairy farmers (up to 10% of the nation's dairy supply is used in the making of ice cream). President Reagan encouraged Americans to do their duty and pay tribute to ice-cream with "appropriate ceremonies and activities." And so the holiday was born.
Although the original intent of the holiday was to get Americans to buy more ice cream, these days the holiday is all about finding those businesses who give away free ice cream!
I found an amazing little locally owned ice cream shop here in my city that was giving away free ice cream today, so I stopped by and enjoyed a nice scoop of chocolate ice cream topped with sprinkles! Did you enjoy some ice cream today?

Does frozen yogurt count? I did have a cone, but it wasn't ice cream. Can't digest that anymore, but glad I'm able to eat the alternative.

I'm like you, I can't really digest ice cream anymore. Usually, I look for places that offer almond milk ice cream, or--as in your case--frozen yogurt. Luckily, there are a few places in my town that have frozen yogurt and almond milk ice cream. So, yes, I will count frozen yogurt! lol

Ooh, orange ice cream sounds delicious! I don't think I've ever tried that flavor before! In fact, I don't think I've ever seen that flavor available anywhere! You would think that where I live here in Florida, orange ice cream would be quite popular, since citrus is our primary agricultural crop!

@just4him I think we have a Dairy Queen on the other side of the city from where I live. I should check it out. I used to love their Blizzards!

@moffittjc True. But I've come close to that much chocolate since, just not that much. I like Dairy Queen's Brownie Blast, I think they call it.

Was in Geneva on Wednesday to get a travel visa, after i was done, l had an ice cream from a street ice cream van, cost me CHF 8.50 which is more or less $9.00.
I was furious l did not ask or check the price before i ordered, i don't pay $9.00 for street icecream.
So ice cream day has not been around so long? seems this national day that national day is coming up every day. Will start my own national day.

@miniam I'm pretty sure there aren't any free days left on the calendar! Usually, when I look at the National Day calendars, each day has three or four things to celebrate.

If I wasn't lactose intolerant, I would eat ice cream every day too! I'm pretty sure my waistline is thanking me right now for being lactose intolerant! lol

I didn't know it was National Ice Cream Day either. Not sure whether it was just the U.S. but usually days like that are continent wide. I was parked right across the street from an ice cream store today. I was tempted to go and get a single scoop but opted to preserve my waistline. LOL!

I generally don't eat ice cream, because I am lactose intolerant, but there is one locally-owned ice cream shop here that serves non-dairy ice cream, so every now and then I indulge myself in its deliciousness! But I'm like you, I need to be careful so that I preserve my waistline. I gain wait just from looking at ice cream! lol

That reminds me of an experience I had at Disney World a few years ago. My kids and I were standing in line to buy some ice cream at the theme park, and there was a woman in line in front of me. When it was her turn to order, she asked the cashier, "How many calories does this ice cream have?" With a smile on his face and clearly joking to the lady in response, he said, "Ma'am, there are no calories in any of the ice cream at Disney World! That's why this is the happiest place on earth!" Not realizing he was joking, the woman--in all sincerity--looked at the cashier and said, "That Walt Disney fella sure was a genius! How come they don't sell this kind of ice cream in stores?"
