Started watching Kabaneri of The Iron Fortress. I instantly love the setting and the overuse of the "rule of cool" in the anime. People are complaining that it is a Attack on Titan clone and all I can say is that there are some elements copied from AOT but then again AOT copied elements from other anime as well such as Fullmetal Alchemist. Plus I like the main characters here compared to AOT especially comparing Eren to Ikoma. One is a whiny little shounen brat who wants to "Kill all Titans!!" while the other is a dedicated and brilliant engineer who is martyr to some degree who also wants to "Kill all Kabaneri!!" but that is where their similarities end. Eren is rash brat who only relies on his titan powers while Ikoma is an inventor who can contribute to the survival of the human race such as upgrading their ballistic steam weapons and even forging a katana from the heart of a Kabaneri .Even without his Kabaneri powers Ikoma is awesome!! I could rant about with 3000+ words but I know that would bore a lot of people here soooo. Check out Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress it is an anime about Steampunk Feudal Japan overrun by zombie like creatures called Kabaneri who not only are like zombies of World war Z but are actually way waaay cooler. It also has that 90's art style which reminds me of "Princess Mononoke" another great anime :)

Its not as good as AOT but its not mediocre either. Think of it as this current season of Game of Thrones. Lots of Plotholes and inconsistencies and bad writing( since they made stuff up and didn't follow the books) but still watchable and does have cool action sequences :)

I'm not really a fan of anime but my son used to love watching them when he was younger.

Anime are simply cartoons taken up a notch. However unlike cartoons there niche is solely targeted at children but to adolescents and even adults as well. That's why they are able to put violence and even adult themes into their shows depending on the genre of anime. Personally I love anime because of the art, OST ( Original Soundtrack) and the underlying philosophical themes in them. The action, plot, story and characters are also the reason I watch them but they serve only as a bonus. :)
