Temper and Pride

I found a quote on anger and it made sense to me. Here is how it goes..
'Temper is what gets you into trouble, pride keeps you there.' - unknown.
Being short tempered could mean getting into trouble with family and friends. Relationship are always rocky because such people could say things they do not mean at the spur of the moment.
Work life could be stressful because people around try to avoid them or keep their distance with them.
They could end up being lonely and frustrated.
Its often their pride that prevents from apologizing for their hurtful behavior and making things right with others, though they may feel bad about their behavior.
Anger really needs to be dealt with rightly. Although it may be triggered by the current situation, it may have very little to do with the present situation. It could stem from resolved issues deep within. It could date back to issues faced in infancy or childhood .
Pent up anger is bound to explode. Pride is hell bent on keeping things that way.
I really think that quote makes sense. Do you?

I agree with what the quote says. It's true that anger can hurt relationships and pride leads to tearing it apart.

Yes it does make sense.. But you know what?.. When people say things in anger, they usually mean it.. whether they are quick tempered or slow to anger ..
I am slow to anger and hold my tongue so that I won't hurt anyone, but I have experienced being pushed down so low that I got so angry and said something that I meant to say .. and I didn't apologise because those people deserve it.. I din't mind losing very corrupt people who tried very hard to drag me into their corruption ...
Beautiful photo! ![](/Content/images/emotes/happy.gif)

@sofssu Yes so true.. You have a deep understanding of people 's emotions
..
I have tried finding ways to express my thoughts and feelings without going down so low to the level of mindset of some people.. But in the end, I found that going down low to their level, din't make any difference.. LOL!! .. Laughing out of frustrations ..
But I have forgiven myself in the.. I forgave myself for allowing me to be in their presence ..

@epiffanie sometimes its really not worth going down to the level of some people. Yes, I guess we need to just forgive ourselves and move on. Life is not worth being connected to such people. I am so sorry that you have been through so much ![](/Content/images/emotes/hugs.gif)

I know a number of people who just call names in anger.. They may not be true at all. They could also tend to exaggerate things due to their the heightened emotional state.
From what I know of your personal experiences I think you hadn't given much expression to your anger in all those years and finally it came tumbling out. I am sure it helped you so much in terms of finally saying what had to be said and getting those people out of your life.
Thank you so much @epiffanie ![](/Content/images/emotes/hugs.gif)

Anger is also often times fear, if you dig to the bottom of it

@Jessicalynnt You are right anger could often be a cover up for the insecurities and fear that lie deep within.

@sofssu Many times if people stop and think about why they are mad, it's often fear. someone cut you off on the road and you get mad? Fear of an accident. etc

The positive side of pride is self-respect or self-esteem. Too much becomes arrogance. Controlling one's temper takes effort, especially if you have to "suffer fools" and are the victim of their folly. In certain situations our anger is justified.

@josie Yes we can take pride in our achievements, in ourselves for who we are but to take pride in our wrong doing may be our downfall.
Being able to channel anger is not easy but worth doing. Its not about the other person, our emotions are about us. Not letting our emotions drive us is very important for our mental health.
