The Amazing! Disappearing!

Tomato? A long time ago, in previous life-time. Okay, at a previous address... with a previous roommate... There was this tomato. And then there wasn't. It fell off the counter and disappeared. I mean, money was tight, that tomato would've helped that meal, but it was gone! We looked, and looked... we didn't have mice, the cats - 4 at the time - would've dispatched a mouse quickly, but that tomato just was gone. We had to replace the refrigerator - not there. The stove broke and the landlord replaced it, neither we, nor the guy who replaced it, saw any indication that the tomato had ever been there. There really was no other place for it to go, but it wasn't any of those places. We found no desiccated skin, nothing... Then, a few years later, in the place I'm at, that roommate found an article from a columnist, granted, he did humor and wrote it amusingly, but the same thing happened with his family. Even to the point of moving the stove and fridge - nada. So, what brings this up today? Well, night before last we fixed a meal that had grape or cherry tomatoes, and the package we pulled out were getting elderly. After picking out the best to go in our dish, the roomie pitched the rest away. I pulled the trash can out to put cat litter in, and 3 of those elderly tomatoes were on our rolling cart (or hand truck its sometimes called.) I grabbed my broom and dust pan and tried to sweep them off the cart. And then there were 2... I know there were 3 before... I got those 2 back in the trash can and looked for #3. Gone. Moved the cart, everything - how could've it gone very far? I think either someone in another dimension likes tomatoes, but can only steal them mid-fall... or there's a tomato loving spook out there. After all, its not only MY tomatoes its stealing! What do you think?
