We Need Rain

I had a long conversation with one of my sisters today. She was working in her garden, picking tomatoes and green beans. She intended to cook green beans for a meal and can the tomatoes. It's so hot in their area that their hay is drying in the field. She said there is no hay and people are going to Tennessee to buy hay for their cattle. Farmers and ranchers are in a bad situation. My sister and her hubby still have hay that was cut and stored before the drought but she said it wont last long. They are desperately hoping for rain. We need rain, too. but we aren't as desperate as they are.

I hope your sister gets the rain they need. It's terrible that the hay is drying in the fields and isn't good for the cattle. We have plenty of rain, might even be too much, but I'm not a good judge of that. We haven't had any brown grass this year at all and tomorrow we're supposed to be in triple digits. I'm not looking forward to that.

@RubyHawk I looked at it this morning and it's going to be cooler than expected, but I'm sure the heat index will have it's way and make it feel in the triple digits.

The lake where we get our water is getting low. That will be a big problem if it doesn't rain soon.

We had rain during the night, a strong thunderstorm with heavy rain at mid morning and now it's raining again. I am happy, I do not need to water my garden.

Getting enough rain for crops is so important isn't it?

@RubyHawk Failing crops have a huge impact on those growing them however. High prices are one thing but having no income makes life doubly difficult.

Very important, other wise no food, and less food means higher prices.Although I know we are much better off than many people in the world.

I hope and pray they get their rain soon. My heart always goes out to the farmers and ranchers who really rely on the weather to get by.

@RubyHawk We had rain last night but it only lasted about 20 minutes and then the heat and humidity came right back. I know that we needed rain a while back and I'm really not sure what the situation is now. I don't see any rain in the forecast for the next week, other than a shower here or there. I really do hope you fare better!

I feel them. Last summers season, we were actually desperate for rain that came late in the rainy season. Summer season here really means no rain but with the el niƱo phenomenon, the situation was worse for the farmers who were even told before the coming of the season that they shouldn't plant as it might just die coz of them impending drought.

That would be terrible when farming is your livelihood. They could lose everything.

We people that live in an equable climate tend to take rain for granted, but in fact it's so precious.

i feel fer 'em! last year we got lucky'n the rains came 'fter many years'f drought. we'd folks from 's far's california comin' 'n buyin' 'p all the hay 'round here. ran the prices through the roof! 'n a massive shortage 'cross 5 states :( the pastures here're burnt to a crisp with the triple digit heat'n no moisture. but, seems that parts'f california're 'n worse shape'n 's...'gain. i hope y'all get some relief soon, though not the excess that seems to plague some parts. this feast'r famine schtuff's fer the birds, eh?

It's for the birds, but I think you're right. Some years we have too much rain and some years too little.
