When do you disagree?

I guess we are usually pleased when someone understands our views and agree with us.
I guess we can be somewhat perplexed when someone disagrees and pushes their own views forward.
So we often say to ourselves, "pick your battles." OR
It doesn't matter who's right, as long as we all get along.
So I wonder, at what point do you say "actually no, I disagree."
Or do you just agree to disagree?

I don't think there's anything wrong with disagreeing as long as it's done respectfully.

Whenever I disagree, I won't say I agree. I might just keep quiet, I might say "I have different opinion", "We think differently", "I don't agree, but I respect your view"..... I agree that that's no right or wrong, we just have different thoughts.

I disagree with someone when something they say doesn't sit right with me, Wendy. I have disagreed with you several times. I don't see a problem. It is not like most things would matter enough to either of us that we would stop talking to each other over a simple disagreement.
I will agree that we clashed pretty hard over my doctor, but I believe I am right and you think I am wrong. We have no choice but to agree to disagree over that situation.
Agreeing to disagree is not necessarily a bad thing. We are all adults on myLot, as far as I know. There will be disagreements. People will get upset and some will stop talking with others. It happens and an adult moves on afterward.
Nobody ever said we are all cookie cutter images of each other. We don't have to always agree to remain friends. Life doesn't work that way.

@DaddyEvil ... You have a right to be sad about our beliefs, and we have a right to believe you are wrong at times...I fully respect your right to be sad (note my editing) , hopefully you will respect our right to whatever we believe...

@Drosophila Yeah, I still remember that. I was (honestly, still am) sad that you believe I am wrong.

I try to do that, though sometimes it's obvious to me the person is just seeking consensus as oppose to anything else. those I quickly move on from.

I am pretty straightforward, so I usually say what I think, especially when it comes to politics. We can disagree in a nice way, without trying to hurt the other person's feelings.

@Drosophila .. Time does play a factor and relevance and importance. Sometimes social or economic situation. Usually, I am inclined to avoid battles, but when there is likelihood of me or my loved ones or for that matter anybody being unhappy with the suggestion or because of the situation, I do stand up.

When I was a lot younger, I often disagree .. now that I am old and grey, I don't have much time to disagree anymore..

@Drosophila I think the ageing process made me realise that my time on this planet is getting shorter so I will spend my energy things other that having a disagreement or a debate with anybody...

@epiffanie That's my general inclination these days.. unless it has some serious impact on my life. But then having said that, it's good to keep the mind sharp, a bit of debate can stimulate that

@Drosophila The forefinger on thumb pose for meditation reminds me of a joke:
Q: What do you have when you hold a little green ball with your left hand, and a little green ball with your right hand?
A: The undivided attention of a leprechaun...

It depends on the issue, sometimes I don't view things as that important-some issues I do view as important, but what I'm willing to argue about is again, more selective...as well, in some cases, I know I will not change a person's view, so I tend to not waste our time on something that will just remain the same.
Often in the theological world, there is a fair amount of arguing...somewhere along the line an idea struck me...if you are bothered by heresy, then simply teach orthodoxy.
That is an oversimplification (what is heresy, and what is orthodoxy? relevant terms, or historical definitions, and by who?), but to a simple degree, it has it's merit.

I don't easily agree to disagree. Nor can I agree with whatever point is put forward just to maintain good rapport. It's sometimes not even about being right or wrong. If I don't understand their point of view, I can't agree with them. I just need to understand from where they are coming from. you know. So, I push it and try to discuss it, try to get them to explain things I don't understand so that I could understand.
That is when I know whether it is time to just agree to disagree or give up!

That's very cool.. ya I just disagreed with a myLotter now..
Well I kinda. We were talking about god's view on abortion, from her post, it's clear she thinks it's wrong and shouldn't be done. I had to disagree with her and point out that basically, it's not our place to judge that matter. it's between the woman and God.
So I guess I do disagree and often. But I digress, you're right, mostly it's good to understand where the person's point of view is coming from, just so we have the context around it

If it's an opinion that could possibly hurt someone or is damaging or debies another person's experience (ie police brutality isn't real), then I will address it. But a lot of times, for opinions like those, people ignore facts and anecdotes and get so mad when they're presented with them.

'tis tricky to answer yer query 's such depends'n the situation, the facts't hand. i do my best to be open-minded. sometimes though 'tis best to jest agree to disagree, showin' respect fer their point f' view 'n call't a day.

I sometimes disagree with things on here then decide I just can't be bothered to get into it.
On a couple of discussions lately there have been cultural differences and some opinions expressed would be unbelievable over here...I just decided to leave it.
Mainly because the people who were expressing the opinions just say "ok, thanks for that" when you respond to them...like talking to a brick wall.

These are the 2 cases I won't bother disagreeing with:
1) someone who has no interest in hearing another point of view
2) trolls

That is very true, who we are disagreeing with makes a big difference.
I am the opposite, I have 0 problem disagreeing with a stranger, but always thinks twice if it's a friend.
