We had some trouble with our air conditioner yesterday and we had to wait until 7:00 P.M. before the technician guy came over and fixed it. But our A/C is pretty old now and it looks like it is on its last legs. A new one will cost more than $4,000.00. Such is life! Do you have central air or a window unit?

@marlina We have been so uncomfortable here and sick with the heat and smoke but it seems that we have some respite today..they must be gone for the weekend.

Central that we recently got ours working again. We used window units for about a month. I have to say that I was quite comfortable with the window units past the noise of the one in here preventing me from hearing the TV without turning it way up. Now I'm cold a lot even though I have the thermostat set on 81.

Glad that you got your air conditioner fixed today. If it can be fixed, it is better to get it fixed to save some money for a new one on the condition that the fixing fee is not too high. Otherwise it is better to get a new one instead. Well, I had an old one used for more than ten years, but before I replaced it for a new one, it was not working well because it did not make enough cool air. Last year we had three new window units installed in three rooms. They are working perfectly. Thank you for your discussion. Good day.

A conditioner here costs only 400$ and is even cheaper in winter. To stay without conditioner is uncomfortable. Bless your problem will be solved soon.

Glad that it's been fixed, as I think it's very much needed during Summer. That's really expensive to get a new air conditioner there. We have three wall mounted units.

That's the price for a house of about 3,000 square feet.

We have both and really feel for those living with AC. Maybe we are wimps, but it is terribly hot to be without some relief.

the hubs put'n central 'bout 5 years 'go? we used to've a swamp cooler, which did great'n these mostly arid parts. those units're mighty spendy, but that's cheaper'n what we got ours wholesale through the company the hubs works, lol. i hope that'cha can keep cool 'til ya can get'chers replaced, hon.

I'm lucky to have central air in my house. Sorry to hear that your a/c is going to have to be replaced especially since it's a costly replacement

That is a lot of money for a new air-conditioner. I think ours is called a reverse cycle A/C. We can heat with it in winter or cool with it in summer.

That is a lot for a new one, but give our summer's heat there isn't much choice is there? We have hot water heat, so there is no ducts in the house, just small rads about 4 inches tall in the rooms, so we use a window a/c unit. We only have 1 story so it does the entire home-thankfully.

I wouldn't live with window units - that' a step or two backwards! Haven't lived like that since I lived with my parents and that was 48 years ago! Our unit is only 5 years old and we still have 5 years of warranty coverage. Plus we have an over sized unit.

central air, but a back up window unit sitting in a spare room for emergencies, you cant go in texas long in the summer without something
