Fun: But Cheaper Vacations

This year, I decided that I would take a two-week vacation. The first week, I will be in Virginia Beach at our Time Share. The second week, I will use my own bedroom as my hotel room and take at least THREE day trips, resting and relaxing one day between each trip.
Here’s how it works! Within about 100 miles radius of my house, I am planning these day trips. Most are within 50 miles or less. So, I already know a couple places that I’m going to go. Mount Vernon and Monticello. I’ve been to Monticello before, but it’s been a long time. I have NOT been to Mount Vernon.
My car gets good gas mileage, so that won’t cost very much and there will be no HOTEL bill to pay and I will eat breakfast at home and have a sumptuous lunch at my day destination and a light snack when I get back home. So, the only cost will be lunch and whatever it costs to go into the two mansions.
I also plan to have a manicure, pedicure and a massage on the days I stay at home. All of these are available near my house at the Mall.
I am trying to decide on whether to make a day, touring a couple plantations nearby that I have been to before OR to visit some historical homes and parks nearby.
The next thing will be to find someone to do these things with me and I think I know the perfect person.
I will also be making a trip to West Virginia to visit relatives and see the mountains that I love so much. I have set aside money for my Day Trips and other activities, so I feel very good about my plans.
What do you think?

I think your plans are terrific and i love the idea of day trips. The key will be sticking to your plan. When you go away you don't have as many distractions as when you stay local. I have several colleagues who planned staycations with the idea of day trips and ended up loafing around the house and doing chores. I love the locations you picked and think you will have a blast as long as you don't get sidetracked.

I'm making some definite plans, checking on the fees involved in visiting Monticello and Mount Vernon and seeing if I can get advance tickets, if needed.
