Saving 10% on my car insurance

United States
July 25, 2016 10:04am CST
I was just speaking to my insurance agent and found out that if I switch to paperless billing I can save 10% on my car insurance. Everything will go through my email and I can access my information that way including billing. I figure 10% off my already high insurance payments will benefit me especially since I'm always looking for ways to save money. Do you do paperless billing these days? It seems popular but I never tried it before.

@Marilynda1225 lol! Well, sometimes I wish we could go back in time a little bit. Some of technology is wonderful and other things....not so much!

I've done a lot of paperless billing, but for certain bills, I've gone back to regular paper billing especially for those bills that I tend to forget about. Some years ago our bank began charging extra for paper statements, so now we get those online instead. It is good to find ways to save on any bill. If you want to save those bills you can download them into a folder on your computer or drive of some sort.

It's nice to know that all this information can be saved on the computer and I won't be having all that paper clogging up a file cabinet

@Marilynda1225 You just have to remember to save it somewhere else on a regular basis. You have several choices; flash drives, CD drives, other external drives and the cloud. The only problem with the cloud you need a good password in case it's ever compromised as several have been in the past. I don't know that some of that info as in billing needs to be saved long term, though. Unless you want to save your first bill of each year to see whether it changes or not. I think they still send the actual policies by snailmail.

We have gone paperless on a lot of things. There are a few I don't really trust so I still get my hard copy in the regular mail. I'm very cheap and would change those as well if there was a financial incentive.

@Marilynda1225 Not all of them offer any incentive.

Since I found out I can save so much on my car insurance I wonder how much I could be saving on other bills by going paperless

I didn't know about the savings until the agent told me. All this time I've been getting my bill in the mail and had no idea there could be a savings

I like the record keeping with paper bills, but do have a few online only ones.

I still get other paper bills but figured this was a good way to save that 10% since it's a big bill and the savings will be great

We pay some utility fees online and a couple of newsletters are now sent out by email too. It saves paper for sure.

Does paperless billing means computer transaction instead of old papers handling? If that´s what it means, then, I do some paper billing with the bank. I´m sent a montly statement through the bank´s site onlne.

I'd grab such offer as well. I always go for paperless option and getting a discount on top of that would be even better. All my bank statements and billing have been paperless for a few years now...

All my domestic gas (not car gas) and electricity bills are paperless - it saves me 22% a year. I get all my insurance (home, car) via email and I presume they are cheaper that way.

In May I finally set up automatic withdrawals from my account, and we assessed my coverage. For my next renewal, I have downloaded an app to track my driving which could save me up to 25% more, but I am not a perfect driver so I will be happy with whatever I can save.

It's good that you'll be saving some money. I've been paperless for a while. It's easier to deal with my banking and I can see it all online. I find that it does make things easier.

I am so old school it's not funny. I send all my bills with payment through the snail mail. I can't help it, it's just the way it is with me.
