Trying To Organize My Computer Stuff

It's as bad as cleaning the closet or the food cabinets. I've spent the last several days (too hot to do anything in the yard) copying and organizing in folders all my articles and other written and photo material. I've had a lot of it in Dropbox but some also in various folders on my desktop. I've finally got all my research information tucked away and under control, my desk top is clean (yay) and I downloaded Google drive for separate storage.
It's amazing how quickly I can get bogged down and scattered. It's sort of like throwing your clothes on the closet floor or letting your food get freezer burned in the freezer. Just like that you got to keep up with it or chaos ensues. I feel better now :))
Do you keep your computer work organized? Or do you sometimes have to do a bit a Spring cleaning?

Thanks - It is pretty easy to get behind especially when you work.

@crazyhorseladycx - I just jumped in myself by cleaning off first the desktop and then deleting unnecessary files in Dropbox. I'm getting there. It does all add up.

My issue with computer files as well as with other things in my world is I let it go for too long. It piles up until the work required to organize goes from task to big job! Do you feel good after you get there? I like that song, haven't listened to it in such a long time.

Yup - we let it pile up. I'm getting there and it does feel good.

@suziecat7 Thanks for the reassurance. Was beginning to wonder if it was worth it. Just to feel good is an incentive.

I've deleted a bunch lately. Why in the world did I keep all that stuff?

@suziecat7 I also wonder why I kept all those articles and recipes.

I spend hours trying to find a photo and I have over 10,000 of them on my computer. I know I should organize them better but just the thought make me crazy.

Just keeping up with all the rest is a job so the computer "housework" comes last.

@suziecat7 that must be why my computer table is always piled up.

My computer is normally clean. The thing I have to work on most is keeping my emails cleaned up. I tend to like to keep them rather than delete them as soon as I figure they are not worth keeping. Then when I have a lot of them I'll get busy and delete the ones that aren't worth saving.

Now my emails need some attention too. Maybe after the big organization this time, I'll keep it all up.

@suziecat7 Even after I clean my emails up I find in just a couple of days it's a mess again.

Anything that's important (like uni work or my CV) goes into a folder that has some kind of organisational structure within it. Everything else goes into a folder I've literally labelled "Stuff" and if I want it I have to go searching! Organisation is not for me.

I haven't done that in a loooooong time. I think because I rarely use my computer at home anymore. The only time I really catch myself using the laptop (on my desk) is when I pay a bill at home and need to print the receipt, otherwise I use my phone or tablet. Mostly my phone. I think I could almost set my laptop back to manufactures settings, after first copying all my photos to disk, and selling it. I'm glad you were able to get yours done.

Though I use my phone for some things, I prefer to do my writing on my desktop. It's much more comfortable.

I try my best to keep it organized since I do remote projects on weekend. I use the same laptop for my regular job on weekdays.

Of course dear. Organizing your computer is always hard. I prefer to keep most of my things in a folder. I can't really see all my things splashed around my desktop. I prefer around 4-5 things on my desktop, others are all in folders.

Jaylean - I think you're one of those naturally organized people. I envy that :))
