My husband and her auntie who is staying with us for good, after having resided in the USA for more than 35 years , opened yesterday one of the new boxes she sent here while she was still there.
On it are her clothes and other things . Amongst her clothes are new blouses and shirts with tags on them still .
She had them placed on the sofa of the living room and told my mother-in-law , without mentioning her name, to choose what she likes from the sofa .
Auntie was speechless , when the ironing woman who was there that day , mistook herself as the one she told that and went to the sofa and chose 3 new blouses and shirts and thanked Auntie , still speechless.
Mother-in-law was also speechless by what the ironing lady did , and just let it be.
If you were the ironing lady , wouldn’t you ask my auntie to confirm if it was her indeed she meant , since she didn’t mention the name of my mother in-law ?
When we were told about it in the evening , we were all surprised at how assuming our ironing woman was , at that instant .
Good thing , my husband took all those that my Auntie presumed that i would like and those polo and shirts he also like .

@SIMPLYD At least, your aunt will earn indulgence for that :) I'm sure those clothes meant much, much more to the ironing lady than any of you who can afford.

@magallon Precisely . Had i been there , i could have been the one to tell the ironing lady that it's not for her to get them .
I would tell her when she comes to iron the clothes that included in her duty is to also get the dried clothes from the clothesline which she doesn't do , but let my mother-in-law do it .
So , ever since i told her that , she now get the dried clothes herself before starting to iron .

There's nothing that can be undone anymore , since my auntie doesn't want to embarrass her. She was expecting her to at least ask if it was her she was trying to mean since she was looking at my mother-in-law when she said those.
Besides , she could have also asked permission , if she can get 3 .

Some people are opportunists and that lady took the opportunity .. But if it was me, even if my name was mentioned, I would take only one after the family members picked theirs.. because I maybe opportunist, but I am also considerate...

@epiffanie Yes , if she could have gotten only one , it would still be okay. But 3 , was really shocking.
Really, the doll was grabbed from you and no one dared reprimand the one that grabbed it! I guess , if it happened tome , i would realy get angry and grab it back! ha ha ha

@SIMPLYD it would not have been too bad if he only took one.. right? .. lol .. that reminds of when I was little living in the province, and someone from the city home with a suitcase full of "pasalubong" .. I was handed a doll from one of the aunties in Manila but as I was reaching out for it, one of the cousins grabbed it.. I remember everyone was shocked but no one did anything about it.. So I went home empty handed .. I was devastated! .. lol .. so I promised that when I grow up I will buy myself dolls ..ahahah!!

I can't blame also the ironing lady if she get the 3 blouses because I think she assumes, she was the one who was mention by your auntie to get those blouses but she must not also get the 3 blouses, she is not thinking other persons whom your aunt would like to give.

That is kind of funny. I can see why the ironing lady thought she was being offered something. But if I were the ironing lady I would have only taken one I think.
Anyway a similar thing happened in my family. My aunt was offering some of her late husband's pants to my husband. My dad thought she was talking to him and he took them. He wore them all the time too! They would have fit my husband better. Every time we visited my dad and he was wearing those pants we had a little chuckle about it.

Yes, i would only have taken one . Though , i will still ask her if it is i being offered .
Your dad is funny . Sometimes , some people forgets to ask out of excitement of seeing a new beautiful stuff being given .

i think what shocked them the most was that she took 3.
i'm sure your aunt and mother-in-law will be more careful next time, after this unforgettable incident.
have you seen her wearing it yet?

Indeed , even us were so surprised she acted that way when our auntie is just new to the house and hardly talk to her yet .
Though , at home we treat hired helps as family , but i think they should at least have the common sense to do the right thing , that is to ask first .

@cherigucchi Correct ! Or maybe she didn't ask because she knows it wasn't her and also didn't ask if she can get 3 instead of just 1 , because she knows too what will be the answer .

@SIMPLYD Sometimes common sense just does not work quickly to others.

WOW! I can't believe she did that!
Had someone said to pick what you want from clothing they had laid out, I would have ask who they were talking to... probably more than once, just to be sure I wasn't misunderstanding them!
Some people think everything is about them!

Precisely , that 's why she was speechless from shock of what she did. And she didn't even ask if she can get 3 but just got 3 and thanked my auntie who was still speechless.
She doesn't want to mbarass her so she just let her.
Auntie said that should she asked her if she can get 3 , she ould tell her to just get one because her relatives will also be gven theirs.

@SIMPLYD That is true, too! I might not have said anything if she had just picked one item, but when she picked three, I wouldn't have worried about embarrassing her anymore! I would have told her only one, or maybe told her I wasn't speaking to her... IDK. It depends on how I felt at the time, honestly!

She's a hired ironing lady that comes on Sundays only . I don't really know why she acted that way . Our auntie hardly have interacted with her so she was surprised she acted that way , not even confirming at least if it was her .
Auntie's fault was that she didn't mention the name of mother-in-law , her sister , so that's why the ironing lady might have thought it was her she was meaning to choose shirts .

Well, she (ironing woman) thought she was the only person in the house. Lol. What a misunderstanding.
