2016 Political Party Conventions – Race For the White House

Last week the Republicans had their convention. Listened with one ear to some of the speeches. Ted Cruz was allowed to speak and insisted that people vote their conscience and fight for freedom. Guess that has to be said. Guess if you don't prick some people's consciences they'll just flip a coin or not vote at all! I'm guessing. This week it's the DNC (Democratic National Convention). This time I saw the beginning because my husband, lord of the remote control, had the television tuned in to PBS, with Gwen Ifill and Judy Woodruff (two of the coolest news anchor women on the planet!) and their team of commentators. Have to say the Democrats are always lively! Also have to say, I did like the speech Michelle Obama gave. Actually listened to her with both ears. I don't do that very often. The constant political spats and speeches by both parties cause me to yawn most of the time. There were others speakers but Ms. Obama's words were the most memorable. Hmmm ...?? Too bad she didn't run for POTUS. That would have been a first! American love their “firsts”! We're a baby country and we love recording and bragging about our "first steps" to accomplish anything! Being honest, I like tuning in to the DNC for one reason. They usually always play good background music!
First Lady Michelle Obama had delegates at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia on their feet tonight with her powerful speech, which got similarly strong reaction on Twitter. Preside…

To me Senator Booker and Michelle Obama's stood out the most. Had Booker not mentioned Trump, I think it could have been as great as Michelle's. But both speeches were written eloquently and delivered excellently. No matter what your political standing is, you have to admit those were amazing speeches.

Didn't get to hear everything Booker had to say. But you are among others who say he also delivered a good speech. Hope they appreciate their speech writers.

@cmoneyspinner Booker's speech was very well done, and honestly, widely applicable outside the DNC. What he said was true for everyone.

I have absolutely no interest in either convention or what they promise because as has happened in the past it's all promises and no follow through. If just once there was some follow through, it would be great and I might just give a listen for the first time in my life.

I don't buy the promises either. You can't make promises about what you will do. This is America. It's a democracy. No one person pulls all the strings. But a candidate can lay out a sensible game plan, show their logic and facts, and say they'll try. Nobody wants to follow a politician on blind faith. Well ... ... I used to think nobody would follow a politician on blind faith. But then Donald Trump got himself nominated. If that's an indicator, then there are a lot of folks out there with blind faith if they believe a lot of the stuff he says. He speaks like a subtle serpent / frightening anarchist. I know Ben Carson linked Hillary Clinton to Lucifer in his convention speech, but I kind of think he's slightly off the mark.

@just4him - My husband (not born in America but got here as soon as he could) ask me the other night if I felt uneasy about 2017. I had admit to him: “Yes. Yes I do.” I told him I was bracing myself for a worst case scenario. He didn't grow up in the USA but I did.

@cmoneyspinner Slightly? It makes me wonder and fear what's going to happen to this country.

Her speech was truly amazing. To think that black slaves built the White House she lives in today! Corey Booker and Bernie gave great speeches too. I listened on radio while cooking dinner (Anne's Tai Chi night). Cruz was gutsy not endorsing Trump, but I think they are both deranged.

I respect Cruz for being courageous to walk alone. One is a lonely number but sometimes One is the number you can do and still sleep with yourself at night.
