Last week, I shared with you a heart-warming dog rescue story about the Throwaway Dog Project from the weekend edition of NBC Nightly News. (Yes I do have a story idea for Nano this year. )
Now I have another animal interest story segment from this weekend's Nightly News. This one is heart-breaking to hear about the Assateague Island horses will be losing their island homes, due to rising tides. They might have to seek shelter elsewhere.
I've enclosed the clip for you to watch and let me know what your thoughts about this story.
(Let me know if this works and loads for you.)
One of America's most beautiful natural attractions, home to a beloved herd of historic animals, is under threat from mother nature itself.

I hope they found a safe place for them since then.

Me too. But I haven't heard much about the story since it was first reported last summer.

I have seen the Assateague Island Horses. We took the grandchildren down there for a week-end to see the annual event and watched the horses come across the water. We had a long wait that day because of the tide. It was a very hot day and I had to seek shade.
Finally, the water was low enough for the horses to come across the water. Then, there was a parade and other activities. We also enjoyed a delicious seafood restaurant.
We had been told that the mosquitoes were going to be really bad and we prepared for that, but didn't see a single mosquito, which we were told was VERY unusual.
It was an interesting weekend and the children enjoyed it but I will NEVER feel the need to go again.

I'm so glad you got to see them when you did. I haven't heard anything new on the news since I posted it here though. I would love to go there someday.

That was very interesting, I had no idea there were so many horses. I hope they find a safe and healthy answer to the problem, we know there will not be an answer to global warming and rising seas.

Quite saddening, the horses might lose their home/playground due to nature's wrath. Hope the authorities can relocate them when there are high tides.
