My Ten Favorite Run Songs: Pascagoula Run (#8)

I'm almost out the door to a small town about 70 miles from here to see the Quebe Sisters. But before I run out the door I'll post another song...not about running, but with some variation of "run" in the title. #8: Pascagoula Run - Jimmy Buffett I've seen Jimmy Buffett five times, but none in the last 31 years. I think I mentioned this after the Whitey Morgan/Cody Jinks show, but I don't go to concerts for "scenes." Buffett's "scene" has gotten so massive that people actually tailgate at his show like it's a football game. In fact, there's lots of people who don't even have tickets at the pre-concert tailgate parties. There are two aspects of Jimmy Buffett: the "let's get drunk and have a cheeseburger at Margaritiaville because it's five o'clock somewhere" and his great ballads like "He Went to Paris," "The Captain and the Kid," and "A Pirate Looks at 40." And, frequently, he will find middle ground between those two diverse areas. This is one of those "middle ground" songs. It's about his uncle who decides he's going to take him to a bar on the state line ("for my first taste of sin" in the words of Roger Miller). The beat in this song is so fantastic Buffett could be singing the phone book and I wouldn't care. I still treasure those five Buffett concerts (and the two times I've met him). I just wish he'd do a small club, "serious songs only" tour....okay, with this song as an encore. I don't know this song. Does just 5 concerts qualify you as a "parrothead"?

No, but meeting him twice makes a lot of Parrot Heads hate me.

I'm not familiar with this one. "Son of a Son of a Sailor" is my favorite.
