On Loving Ourselves

I remember a friend who once told me that sometimes she does not want to read beauty magazines anymore because it makes her feel ugly! Can you believe that? But that brought laughter to both of us because she made a strong point though I did not agree with how she looks at herself. Have you ever thought that you were not sexy enough or trim enough to wear sexy clothes? Have you ever said to yourself that no one is going to take a second look at you because of your plain looks? DO those things make you feel sad, depressed and sometimes scared to go social? If your answer to those questions are YES, then you have a problem! The belief and concept of not being beautiful towards oneself is a product of low self-esteem and poor regard for oneself. It is such a horrible feeling that makes you withdraw yourself from the outside circle of making friends and developing your personality to its full potentials. We have to consider the factors so we can understand where it is coming from. How you see yourself naturally affects your self-esteem and as a result also affects how you interact with others. You have to build your confidence from within and start loving yourself. You cannot share anything that you do not have. Beauty has many definitions and you should not rely on how others perceive beauty. Start with yourself

Very well said. Too many people feel they are ugly but forget that beauty is only skin deep. I wish people would look at the good inside them then they will see the beauty that others see.

@anamika161088 I agree with you but most people can't see beyond the face.

@anamika161088 You are right and when you are beautiful inside it will reflect in the outside.

Beauty resides deep inside the heart and the thoughts. Looks are deceiving.

We have to be self - fulfilled in order to see the beauty of life and also the beauty in us. Who else will appreciate us if we, ourselves, cannot accept what we are? Yes, building our self-confidence is the key to our self - appreciation. If we don't have it, then , it will be difficult for us to see the beauty in ourselves.

That is right. One thing more we cannot share anything we do not have inside us.

@cherigucchi Yes, correct. It would be very difficult to share what we do not have.

A very meaningful and beautiful post.I used to have such perception as well yet gradually after introspecting and through experience I understood the beauty of a soul which is beautiful.Appearance is just a virtual thing yet inner beauty is something present in each of us which is real and immortal. :)

Very true. How people see themselves matters more than how others see them. One should feel proud for self.

Beauty is not makeup, hair, clothing and fitness, but the media would make us think that way. I like pretty things, etc. but that is not me. It is only an image. A genuine smile to another person can make you and that person both beautiful. I am sort of old, sort of plump, but I am not ugly. I am my own unique me.

Beauty has various definition and we should not let other people's definition bother ours.

Some say"(physical) beauty is only skin deep". Do we really care for such a superficial appreciation of us by others? On the basis of the huge market for cosmetic and beauty products, apparently we do.

It is the society and the culture that dictate what we should believe and we must not allow it.
