That's a real shame, but I think it's time that Federer retired. By tennis standards he's getting old and I can't see him winning another major title, so it would be better if he went out while he was still near the top.

The right deal for any sports star is to leave the game before they lose their star power due to age. Easier said than done.

@Deepizzaguy Some players have done it but many seem to find it hard to let go. Maybe it's a case of not knowing what to do with their lives once they retire.

I can see why Roger will not be able to compete in the Olympics in Rio due to an injury. A lot of major sports stars are skipping these Olympics since they are concerning about their safety and the negative reports from ESPN about the venues not being ready.

It reminds me of Anderson Silva from the UFC, he was the best mma fighter for a lot of time until he started to take his opponents less seriously, he got a punch to the head because of his habit to expose his face to the opponents and dodge their punches. That one time he got a punch to the face by Chris Weidman and got knocked out. On their next fight, Anderson Silva kicked too hard and his own bone just snapped. This caused him to lose, and from then, his fighting ability has dropped drastically, he will never be the same again. I hope Roger will recover and at least be the same as in the past. He will be able to win other competitions if not the Olympics. Sports training must be done with caution even when training. It takes only one injury to miss the contest and be replaced by another player. Watch out when doing sport. It can destroy a career.

He is running out of time to win a Gold in singles and this was probably his last chance. He won Silver in London and Gold Doubles in Beijing.
