Many hosting services are scams!

These days, there are many web hosting services , offering 1st year free, one year discount and so on. I was cheated yesterday by one such company, which i do not want to name here. Even after cancelling my domain, invoice of $14.99 was sent and the amount was deducted from my credit card. I had DE ACTIVATED the auto renewal option.Even then it was done. Also, one more invoice remainder was sent for another invoice for $83. Without any option, I blocked the credit card. So, be careful about hosting services.

Not all discounts or free offers are scams. It is true though that if you wish to use a free (or discounted) service you must check out all the implications before signing up, don't just jump right in, do some research about what all the costs are and what you will be eventually asked to pay. I know of some hosting services that offer free hosting, guaranteed, forever (provided you purchase a domain name) but these companies also offer pay services as well and you have research those elements of their service that cost money.

Maybe there are provisions there that you overlooked or failed to see? It is indeed good to be careful before signing up.
