I could be wrong in my observation but somehow I feel we are becoming too much self centered. This is happening I believe mainly in cities. I have lived in 3 different cities and I feel the same way. Probably it is due to the fast paced life in cities. We do not want to talk to strangers. We do not want to smile at others. I have grown up in a small town in India. Life used to be much different there where we used to love interacting with and enjoyed companion of others. It was a true community growing up there and I enjoyed every bit of moment. Few years back I went on a trip to New Zealand South Island and I observed in small towns people loved to interact with us even though we were strangers. The people over there made us very feel as if we have known them for years.
What are some of the observations from this community? Do you feel the same way?

You are right in your observation, in a lot of ways. There may be some exception, but based on what we see and hear, many people are too much self-centered that they are willing to hurt, deceive, and even lie to advance their self-centered goal. I believe that the world will not be getting better, but getting worst. However, in our own little way, we can do something, like what those New Zealanders have done unto you - making you feel as if you have known them for years.

Small communities are more social and selfless, because well they're small. It's easier to get along with nd trust a smaller group of people than a larger community like say in the city where one in five people might mistreat, rob, or try and harm you.
But hey, I'm a recluse, so I could be wrong.
