I think it is really difficult to identify. But what I noticed here is that, when I post about food which is common to everybody, it gets many responses. And when I post about something that respondents have to think about, I get few responses. Another thing is, some members here only respond to my post if I respond to their post too.

Most people like personal posts because they can relate.

If you look at the 'Hot Discussions' list, you will see that it's not the subject of the post so much as the people who are posting the discussions and the way that they are socially active here and always write something worthwhile, whether it's a discussion or responses and comments.

I am not quite sure. But usually I find the discussion about food, especially attached a delicious and attractive dish photo, then it will have many responses.

I could not tell sir. Based on the readings I am doing, I have seen great responses from readers because the writer is actively commenting on each members who left comments on his/her posts. The key is still interaction and the give-and-take rule.

Question discussions are the best I think. Especially if the answer can be open ended, that way there's something to talk about.

I don't think you can say that any particular subject will get a lot of responses, I believe Owlwings to be correct.

It is whatever interests other readers. It is usually something that reminds them of their own story, a common experience that most can talk about, something a little weird, something unusual.
