Computer vs. Laptop

When I was still studying, especially in college, I am always having a hard time when we have paper work which needs the use of a computer. We don't have much in terms of riches. We live in my aunt's house up until now, for free. It's like we're the housekeeper. We don't have a computer at home so I always have to go to a computer shop to do my homeworks, reports and thesis, until I graduated in college. So now that I already have a job, I'm planning to buy my brother, who's now in college, a computer. But I have a doubt if I'm going to buy a computer (desktop), or a laptop which is handy.
I don't really know much about computers, so ... (inhale, exhale)... I would love to hear from you if which is better, a desktop or a laptop, in terms of specs, affordability and durability.
Looking forward to your responses ^_^...

While laptop has the advantage of portability, it has likewise the greater risk of being lost or stolen. I think a desktop would be better for a student. Just a personal opinion.

You have a point. I've also think that laptop is more sensitive than a computer if I'm not mistaken. Again, I don't really know much about computers :P. Thank you for your advise :)
~nice to meet you @sunrisefan :)

you are smart ennough to judge that nowadays laptop are more needy as compared to pc......because laptops are really handy and easily accessible as compared to pc............ so go for laptops...

For me, you should buy a laptop with the I series for its very useful for your brother and I suggest you also buy iPad for yourself because it's handy especially an iPad mini. My husband is planning to buy a new laptop for my daughter for she said her laptop is already obsolete. She is suggesting us to buy Asus I 5 .

Whoa! I believe those you have stated are too expensive, but thank you for your suggestion. I am also checking out those stuff but I can't really afford them. I'm just planning to buy something my brother can use for his paper works. Besides, he only have less than two years in school. After that, he can already buy himself a good quality computer/laptop once he already find a job :)
~pleasure to hear from you @Macarrosel :)
'til next time :) ....

In terms of affordability and durability, desktop is a better option but I personally like laptops because I can take it anywhere. We need laptop/ computer every now and then during job life and there laptop plays better role.
