When you pray the "Lord's Prayer", do you really understand what you're praying for?

Most would be surprised about what they are really praying for. Some know this prayer by heart/memory that Jesus ask his followers to pray continually about. Still many do not completely understand what they are praying about or asking for (Matthew 6:9,10). What are your thoughts concerning the "Lord's Prayer"?

In my personal experience, it's very difficult to understand any part of scripture not unless you have accepted Jesus as your personal Lord and saviour and the Holy Spirit already dwells in your heart.

I used to understand the passage you've mentioned in Matthew 6 as the Lord's Prayer. When I became a Christian, I learned that it's Jesus model prayer for His disciples. In my childhood days, many of my relatives have showed me how to do this. They did memorize it word by word. If there was a contest on how fast they will utter those prayers, they probably would have won. However, it is obvious that all of them doesn't do it as coming from their heart, but just a repetitive practice. In a true prayer, the one praying has not memorized a script reading it for God, but it is usually one that emanates from the deepest part of their heart. This makes the difference between a true prayer and the memorized oration..

It usually happens when someone teaches prayer to a child, don't teach the hidden meaning. Children learn it word by word. After few years, they start getting curious about the meaning and later on find it. This is then when they come to know what they actually are praying for.
