Favorite Songs about Rain #3 - "Happy when it Rains"

Somewhere back in this Favorite Songs about Rain series (which I've stolen from @JohnRoberts,) I wrote about rain being a dreary, gloomy affair (it was The Cure, after all.) Rain can also be a joyous occasion, as evidenced by #3, "Happy when it Rains" by The Jesus and Mary Chain. Scotland's The Jesus and Mary Chain are brothers/guitarist's/vocalist's Jim and William Reid, with a revolving door of band members. The band's sound is influenced by a diverse collection of bands such as the Velvet Underground, the Ramones, and The Beach Boys, often integrated into the same tune. Formed in 1983, the band, early on, were dogged by drug and alcohol usage (acid was particularly popular,) and their noisy, distorted pop shows often culminated in crowd violence. From their 1987 album Darklands sprang "Happy when it Rains," in which our narrator sings "you were my sunny day rain." Despite the fact that she was a bummer, he misses this girl, and, therefore, rain reminds him of her. "Happy when it Rains" was a minor hit at best: it reached #25 in the UK, but it is one of my favorite rain songs, performed by one of my all-time favorite bands.
