It's hard for me to delegate but, I did it. I officially bestowed the title of Bathroom Cleaner on my daughter last week. And it's made a huge difference in my life! The smell, oh, the smell of that room! It made me want to move every time I had to pass through the doors! (no pun intended) I hated it. Now, let me assure y'all...the bathroom gets cleaned. Deep cleaned. And fairly often. Sheesh, with 8 people in the house and half of 'em being boys, it's a given that the Throne Room would get a good scrubbing fairly often. But my once-a-week blow-torch scorching never killed the smell...until I appointed an overseer. She goes in every day and wipes down all essential equipment and, lo and behold! The smell is at a tolerable range! I can now enter the bathroom without wanting to run away or burn the house down! I wish I'd appointed her Loo Lady a loooong time ago. Now what else can I delegate to the kids...?

i dunno how ol' yer young'uns'd be, but all need responsibiities related to their age/capabilities - not chores, but responsibilities. i'm glad'jer daughter's doin' such a great job, but i think i'd leave that task to all those stinky fella's myself.

I've told my eldest son--who's almost 10--that he'll be assigned the bathroom if he keeps missing his mark. He had a look of horror on his face. Not the bathroom! He's on vacuum duty. He also clears and washes the table. Though all of them seem to have an issue with making their beds. Not sure why...

@Genipher 'n those young'uns defense, 'tis said that not makin' ones bed's actually better - the dust mites dry 'p 'en perish. which's a gross thought, lol. yepperz, i'd 've those boys tendin' to that bathroom duty. might teach 'em to be better't their aimin'.

@crazyhorseladycx Wow! There's a legitimate excuse to not making the bed? That's awesome! Reminds me of when I heard that it's actually healthy for kids to eat their boogers. Apparently it helps them build up their immune system.

Start to write down your list. I think that there are plenty of jobs that you can delegate to the kids.

It can be hard to let go and let them do the chores. Though that was our plan from the get-go. To work ourselves out of a job.

I agree. I'm thinking I should start concentrating a bit more on cooking and cleaning and sewing on buttons and whatnot. More Home Ec this school year!
