That's insane. If a teacher ever raises a hand to one of my children they will have to answer to me, and I will have their job.

While the instances you have mentioned reek of abusive anger, one thing should be remembered....the relationship between a teacher and a student is very dynamic and the dynamics of that relationship cannot be appreciated really well by anybody else. Brutal punishments should never be administered to students; but a teacher should have the authority to punish children for correcting them. Though for majority of the kids gentle persuasion will work, there are certain cases where punishment is warranted to enforce discipline. But, such punishments should never be psychologically or physically abusive. Balancing in this regard is a very tough job, and I would consider the role of a teacher as a "specialist" job on par with physicians, counsellors, and judges. On the contrary, we find the mal administration in selection process and the relative "low" status (at least economically) of the teaching profession in these modern days has made many teachers frustrated lot and it is a fact very rarely do the cream of educated gentry enter teaching profession now-a-days. Anyway, nothing is an excuse for brutally beating up a child - be it parents or teachers.

That is a very bad idea. It is a very brutal to make things work by the act of violence.

We study in Psychology that reinforcement and punishment are affective ways of learning and teaching. But that does not mean that punishment always is the better option that too punishing someone by beating them brutally. Children learn new things when the teacher teach them slowly and lovingly. If teacher starts punishing them then on whom the children will trust and ask questions if they do not understand any concept???????? Teachers sometimes show their frustrations and pressure by beating children. So it should be taken care of that y teachers beat the child..........
