Wow, what a whirlwind trade deadline! If you're a baseball fan your head is probably spinning, too. Let's all calm down with another song with "run" in the title, from my top ten list of favorite "run" songs. #3: Before They Make Me Run - Rolling Stones I love that meme on Facebook that say, "Now we have to start worrying what kind of world we're going to leave Keith Richards." Keef, the lead guitarist and seldom-heard occasional singer in the Rolling Stones, is a survivor, and we're all probably trying to figure out how. I would hope the guy would leave his body to science so they can determine how he did! Anyway, on to the song. When I started going to rock concerts Some Girls was a huge hit album for the Stones. Contained on that album was one of Richards' rare lead vocal appearances, "Before They Make Me Run." It's a song more or less dealing with his love of "mind-altering substances" ("booze and pills and powder, you've got to choose your medicine"), acknowledging that it can be fatal ("It's another goodbye to another good friend"). By and large, I'm not much of a Rolling Stones fan, but that album -- and this song in particular -- has always resonated with me. What a killer rocker.
