Cashier didn't have change, and it's my problem?

Just before I went home from work, I dropped by a store because I needed to buy some paper for my daughter's assignment. I got a ream and took it to the cashier. Unfortunately, I only had a PHP 1,000 bill to pay for something that didn't even reach PHP 100. And that was my only paper bill (the coins I had weren't enough if I added them all). So I gave the paper bill to the saleslady and told her that's all I have in my wallet. And she goes, "I don't have change for that." I said, "Well, it's all I've got." And she said, "So what are we going to do about it?" I didn't give it a second thought and told her, "Never mind, I'll just go buy somewhere else. Thanks anyway." I left the store even before she could say anything. I know I should have some smaller bills but that 1,000-peso bill was all I had. I was like, it's my problem to look for smaller bills now? Oh well. At least the next store I went to had change. I got what I needed. And the saleslady from the first store lost the opportunity for a last-minute sale.

Customer is the king . So they should keep the changes. We usually get sweets if they don't have change for less than 5 rupees.

I guess it was because they're about to close and the cash from the register has been put away when I came in to buy. But yeah, they should have prepared for those last-minute buyers. Sweets for change -- from where I am, those who do that are owners of small neighborhood stores. Well, at least they used to.

@moonchild117 A law has been passed probiting the use of candies as change to customers. The law imposes a fine and imprisonment on 3rd offense.

It's not your fault not having a smaller bill. As they say, if on can not take care of a customer, others will.

Yeah, and that's exactly what happened. I just let it pass.

Cashiers should have a working fund before they start cashiering . It should have all bill denominations so when a customer comes with a big bill they can change it outright . Their lost indeed that you got it and bought somewhere else.

I think she'll survive that. If she hasn't got change, she hasn't got change. What can she do?

True, but I didn't have any smaller bills. So, since she didn't want to look for change for a potential sale and rather than me finding a smaller amount (which I didn't have that time), I just went to the next store. Problem solved for both of us, I guess. Though the situation benefited the other store and not hers.

Yes she did. She was also tactless. She should have contacted her supervisor to get her some change for her drawer.

Maybe she didn't want to bother because the store was about to close. Oh well. I don't think I'm buying from that store again, after what happened.

@just4him Good thing the thing I needed to buy was just common, something I can buy somewhere else (who has better customer service, too. Haha!).
