Education System

I just wanted to know what you people think about the current education system. This is something i realised yesterday. At my university, in order to pass we need to get 50 out of 100. In that 100, 30 marks are given for assignments and 70 for the theory paper. But the faculty at my university just blindly gives everybody 28 or 29 on 30, wether they deserve it or not. So all we have to do is a maximum of 25 marks in theory paper in order to pass.

Does that mean that everyone passes?

Sounds like the U.S. Can't possibly let anyone fail, right? Might make them feel bad or something...

No. There are still some who need even lower benchmark to go through it.

Doesn't sound like a fair grading system to me certainly not fair to those who put forth the extra effort nor does it challenge the students.

In the US, in some parts of town, you get at least a B if you just show up.

@TheHorse Waow! It happens in India as well. I hate this. Even though we end up passing, it doesn't make you feel good.

Why this is done by your university, let me explain by giving an example of my friend. One of my friend was not so good in study and the education board made him fail even after his repeated attempts in 10 standard. Finally he left his study and all we knew him as useless,Gradually he was growing to older and was not getting good job.Later he decided to start doing tution,so he started teaching elementary level and now he is one of the best and popular teacher of his area. And every year two or three students have been getting postion in state level exam,to whom he taught. My friend could be even more better but due to strickness of his teacher at that time, today not let him to move ahead than this. Do you know, why monthly or weekly exam is conducted in school and universities is just to eximine,is he/she doing study regularly. It is always an attempt of all educational institutions to make familiar of the things to all student,if they got familiar a bit then he is eligible to further.it is best if anyone can be expert of the same.

Okay i do agree with you on a certain level. But when it comes to your internal examinations, don't you think the grading should be fair? A person who wrote an excellent answer and a person who wrote a long answer which is just average.. Don't you think its unfair to give them the same marks?

It's the opportunity for underprivileged as it happens in almost every field in some way or the other.

Underprivileged? But what about the ones who really worked hard for it? They do that so that they get better reviews from the students.

Personally, I believe that the current educational system of many countries are not any more very relevant to the changes we are experiencing. There are still a lot of countries whose educational system is still patterned in the good old days of yesteryears. In the class, you need to get a certain score to pass even if you know anything or not. In real life, it is not measured by scores but by the outcome of your life. This is true to my neighbor when we were young. He only finished Grade 3, but now he is one of the millionaires in our beloved town. So, in my conclusion, we don't need to have a college degree to be successful in life.

I agree with you. But then isn't it unfair to give the same grade to a person who knows the topic very well and a person who hardly knows the topic? Some of us here really work hard.

Well, I thought this is the matter that only happens in my country. we have to make 12 out of 20 to pass a course and usually teachers has 4 of it that can give to a student or not. it means if you have a good relationship with the teacher (ofc in my country), there is only 8 more grade needed and believe me there is no need to study alot. after all what is relay important is to satisfy your teacher in a way that you become sure he or she would give you the grade and dont let others to understand it :) for what you said i think its more legit comparing to this method.

They give you marks for having a good relationship with your lecturers? To us here, they just give out the question papers.

@greatekurosh No i meant that they just give the question paper before the test. And we have to learn the same ques and answer them.
