Proud of my daughter's writing contest win!

My daughter has one her biggest writing contest yet. The "What a Character" writing contest on writing.com is the premier contest on that site. My daughter enters it regularly. Previously she has finished in second place twice. This time she took first place though. The piece is called Rhakinir's Raven. I was impressed with her story. It is available to writing.com member's. She has hopes of being published through a major publishing house someday so it is not available to the general public. If you have a membership on that site and are interested there is a link in my latest author's blog entry. As her dad I'm extremely proud of her writing accomplishments.

Well you should be! I wonder who she takes after from? You or her mom. just kidding. My son placed third on a longboard competition when he was nine years old and i wasn't there to witness that as i was in another country. But I was extremely proud of him. He makes me proud all the time. Congratulations to your daughter!

I'm sure she gets it from both sides. It's always great as a parent to see your children excel.

I think we can sometimes be prouder of our children's achievements than we are of our own. Well done to your daughter.

I hope the recognition of her work continues to inch up to higher levels. He level of writing skill and her productivity should interest publishers. She wouldn't be a one hit wonder.

@koopharper That's the key, the productivity. Most of us can chuck out the odd one or two high quality pieces. To do that consistently is taking things to another level. Good luck to her!

@WorDazza Exactly. It isn't just the skill, it's the work ethic she shows with her writing.

@sishy7 At twelve he almost sees eye to eye with his mother. He is going to be a big sturdy young man within a couple years.

@koopharper Yes, she will! She's so talented, I think it's going to be sooner rather than later... How's your little boy 'W' doing? I bet he's not so little anymore and catching up to his big brothers...

It is terrific news. I thought she would have one previously but you can't always get perfect judging. No sense complaining about it just keep showing what you've got and improving. Sooner or later this kind of recognition will come.

If she was interesting in going Indy, she wouldn't have to wait. I think her hoping to catch on with a good publisher is probably a wise decision.

I'd like to think so. With the exception of actually having a book published she is accomplishing more than me. That could change quickly and is mainly because she is hoping to find a place with one of the big publishing houses.
