A question for all coffee drinkers!

I was just sitting here thinking what to do to try and wake myself up a bit. I'm not THAT tired but I can feel myself getting that way. My sleeping pattern is really bad lately. I've been sleeping during the day and waking up at night. Right now it's 5am and around 11am-ish I will probably want to lay down to sleep. But I really want to try and switch this around. I remember making myself a cup of coffee like 8 years ago to try and wake myself up but I didn't really like it. I love the smell of coffee but the taste isn't really.....well my taste and I also recall it giving me a bit of a stomach ache. But right now I am considering giving it another go. So a few questions: 1: How the hell do you make coffee? I know of two ways but don't know which way is better. My dad warms up milk in the microwave and then adds the coffee and other people boil water for their coffee. 2: Will it actually wake me up? 3: Does it actually give you energy too? Bonus question: Is there a reason why the coffee gave me a stomach ache? I know these are probably dumb questions but I really haven't experienced having / making coffee except for that one time years ago.

I don't drink coffee for waking myself up. I drink it because I like it. And even then I don't drink it often. It maybe months in between that I would have it. Same with spiced tea. I like it but don't drink it often. I won't even touch regular/ plain tea. Green/ black/ lemon tea shouldn't even be mentioned. I like the smell too but I also like the taste so much so that I buy and eat candies tasting like coffee when I can't have coffee.lol I make coffee simply adding coffee powder, some sugar into hot mug of milk. It's ready after stirring it. It's easy to make which is another reason why I like it.

My favorite is either a chai tea latte, or an Earl Gray tea. I am more of a coffee drinker than a tea drinker, but I've started to drink tea a little more often these days. Maybe I'll get venturesome and start trying the many different varieties of spiced tea!

@Daljinder I've never heard of spiced tea before actually. I have tried green and lemon which is alright but mainly prefer just a normal black tea. lol yeah the easier the better!

@VivaLaDani13 Spiced tea can be made in various ways:- 1. adding fresh ginger 2. adding aniseeds, fennel seeds 3. adding black cardamom 4. adding green cardamom 5. adding black pepper (don't try that lol) 6. adding carom seeds, thymol seeds, bishops weed 7. adding dry ginger 8. adding holy basil Some are mixture of one or two of theses spices listed.

I have an automatic drip coffee maker that I got for like $15, and it's really easy to operate. Just put in a coffee filter, add the amount of ground coffee that you want, and then pour water into the reservoir and hit the 'on' button. In a few minutes you'll have coffee. You can then flavor the coffee with cream, sugar, milk or whatever other flavors you like. I also have a Keurig, and I don't think it gets any easier than using one of those! Just put the K-cup pod in the machine, add water, and in about 45 seconds you have a cup of coffee. Unfortunately, Keurig machines are rather expensive.

@VivaLaDani13 I only started drinking coffee a few years ago, as most of my life I hated it too. But then when I realized you can sweeten or flavor your coffee in so many different ways, I gave it a try. And now, I love how the caffeine gives me a great kickstart in the morning when I first wakeup!

I didn't like coffee until I started working..I hated its taste. I remember when I was in college my tummy wasn't feeling well so my mother told me to drink coffee to warm my stomach and it worked..until I drank more cups and I had acidic stomach..I stopped drinking coffee. After graduating, I had sleeping problems. I had insomia making me sleepy in the morning. I started drinking coffee in the morning to awaken me at work. It works until now. It also soothes me when I have head ache due to migraine. If you want to try drinking coffee, drink a cup first and see if you will have hyper acidity. if nothing happens then you may start drinking a cup a day. By the way, I drink instant coffee..

@VivaLaDani13 , My co-teacher explained that to me..I have just forgotten it. She said coffee contains something that really acts as a pain reliever.

If you don't like coffee try a nice cup of tea. That has quite a bit of caffeine in it.

whatever coffee type never add boiling water make sure it's off the boil. instant coffee just add hot water to the coffee powder then milk and sugar as required. My opinion for the best coffee is get a cafetiere put in one good size table spoon of ground beans then gve it a good stir and press the plunger down to just above the water. what for a few minutes then press the plunger right down and then pour it out and add milk and sugar. personally I don't find it gives me energy particularly and I've had coffee with a deaths head on it as it was supposed to be so strong.

I make my coffee in black and brown sugar. Before I have it with cream or milk. This is weird, whenever I have coffee I can still sleep but if I have milk I cannot sleep. Weird.

@JustBhem That is a bit odd. Well not odd but only because coffee is meant to make you stay away and I've heard warm milk helps you sleep lol

@VivaLaDani13 Yes. But it's different for me. I don't know why or maybe because I am a coffee addict.

Are you allergic to dairy products? 1. I usually only drank instant coffee at home, those came with packets in powder form, as it's easier to make those coffees when I need it. 2. I think it did wake me up for awhile, but after some time, I might feel sleepy again. 3. It did give me energy because I believed it so. I used to drink coffee whenever I needed a break, and it did help me to relax or think of a solution too. I have not been drinking coffee for more than 8 years since my first pregnancy. Though I would still think of drinking coffee to give me energy or wake me up, I can still stay awake without coffee for so many years. So, I think if you really do not feel comfortable drinking coffee, you can actually find other ways to keep you awake.

If you are constipated, coffee with milk will send you to the loo accompanied with stomach ache . Dont have coffee with milk if you have stomach ailment. It is the milk not the coffee which gives you stomachache maybe.

The first time I drank coffee, my stomach was churning and pretty soon I had to make a dash to the toilet. Coffee will prevent me from falling asleep, but it doesn't really make me alert either. I drink it because I now really like it. I have to only drink it in the morning or it will prevent me from falling asleep. When I really want to sleep in the day, I just try to push through and keep doing things that don't involve a lot of thought. Things like vacuum, or go for a walk, talk on the phone to a friend, drink cold water. Not things like sitting at a computer. Then I am really tired by bedtime and have a chance of a good sleep. I have lots of trouble with sleep.

@paigea Thank you for sharing that with me! And it actually helped me to think of other things to do to try and wake myself up. Thank you. :) Sorry that you have trouble with sleeping. I can totally understand what you mean. Pretty much 99% of the reason why I can't sleep is due to my mind thinking things that I really wish not to think of when trying to relax.

We do have instant coffee (powdered coffee in sachets) here. I just pour its contents in a mug filled with hot water. That's my morning coffee. I take 2 cups from 6-7 am. Yes, it perks me up and keeps me awake for the rest of the day. Yes, it gives me energy as well.
